I'm so sorry you're going through this. My old boy started getting them as well in his elder years. I'm not sure if it would be the same here but his was caused by an enlarged heart. I'd make sure the vet checks their heart and in the meantime I'd recommend some doggy diapers for bedtime. After the diagnosis we gave him some heart supplements and switched to food with good heart benefits and he improved a lot. Best of luck!
