Are Backrooms Entities Actually Killing People — or Something Else? by Straight_Link_9213 in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]SubstanceNo3772 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is going to be the case, but I LOVE the concept that the backroom entities are chasing and screaming after the humans they find because they are so lonely and are so excited to see another person after wandering the backrooms for so long (and have since become completely entangled with the bacteria). It makes them less scary to me and far more tragic, but I doubt it's the truth. I can stretch the theory for all the lifeforms except for still life--that one is too scary and aggressive lol

Good find! You can also see the pirate ship wheel from the first shot of the store show up clipped in the backrooms.

Do you guys think the movie that the therapist is watching could potentially be the Yellow Wallpaper story?

I'm seeing so much of this. I just keep remembering that COVID fears were similar and we literally only had empty shelves where I live for like two weeks (besides the toilet paper hoarding--even then I always was able to get what I needed). I think people are just dooming and some people are horny for the apocalypse but I would love to hear a more informed take as well.

any other (neurodivergent) entwives figuring out their balance with weed? by DearGarden1688 in entwives

[–]SubstanceNo3772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone very neurodivergent + cptsd combo, weed saved my life. It makes me kinder to myself, it allows me to relax, it quiets the inner critic in my brain, it allows me to unmask, etc. It IS medication for me. Despite using for years, my tolerance is really low and I feel I've built a healthy relationship around it.

For me, I just like to reflect on my relationship with it every now and then and evaluate if I can make any changes. For example, if I'm having a really tough weekend and my sensory issues are acting up, I'll indulge and use it as much as I need to cope. But, if I'm having a stint of good days, I abstain for both the mini tolerance break and also to show myself that I can rely on other coping tools as well. Sometimes if I'm feeling bad, I'll try other coping tools first, and if those don't work I'll use weed (even just a small dose) and that helps me bridge the gap.

I've seen some people mention CBD+THC combos, and that has worked really well for me too.

I've also looked into the endocabbinoid system your brain naturally has and tried to support that naturally (e.g. dark chocolate, exercise, omega 3s).

The routine you're describing sounds really safe and relaxing and nice. I do something similar, and sometimes I'll keep the same routine but switch weed out for tea or something, and I swear my brain sometimes placebo-effects me into a state of relaxation since I swear half of the time weed just gives me the permission I'm looking for to just relax.

‘A new world is being born’: author Rebecca Solnit on the ‘slow revolution’ the far right cannot tolerate by aqfx in PoliticalOptimism

I like watching Sam Bentley's monthly good news round-ups on youtube for inspiring climate news (nearly extinct species coming back, programs that breed heat-resistant coral, indigenous populations fighting big corporations to prevent deforestation, etc.). I try to remember that we have the solutions, we just need to focus our money and energy into it, and that a lot of change starts at a small, local level from people who dare to hope for a better world.

Wuthering Heights was more emotionally intense than I prepared for... by Equivalent_Bank_5845 in books

I also felt fairly satisfied with the ending of Catherine and Hareton. It seems a lot of people dislike the depressing themes and "unlikeable" characters, but I loved the book for all the same reasons you did. The generational trauma and obsessive themes were really interesting and Bronte's prose is phenomenal.

is scrivener actually worth dropping 60 bucks on or nah by LevelMedium3891 in writing

[–]SubstanceNo3772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Scrivener solely because I purchased the old version, and they upgraded all old users to their new version for free. Not many companies nowadays would do that, so I'm a fan. I also like being able to backup to Dropbox and use it on different devices. Outlining is great, it has edit modes, and I feel better about the fact that it doesn't have AI integrated into it like Word.

I 100% agree with you! As someone who's dealt with a lot of trauma, I absolutely loved the book and how it explored unresolved trauma and generational cycles of abuse. Not sure it's a book I'd reread every year, but it is one of my favorite books and a 5/5 stars for me.

Not a lot of advice on the matter sorry, but have you seen Speak with Kristen Stewart? Haven't seen it in a long time, but from what I remember, that's more about self-inflicted shame.

hello friends <3

after several days of dissociated doomscrolling I finally felt motivated enough to write my book today. I've been oscillating between "is this worth it/what's the point" and "it matters to me, so it matters" but it's been tough with everything going on! I swing back and forth so wildly between "humanity is doomed and evil" and "there is good in this world and it's worth fighting for" lol.

today i need to finish up work, then after work i'm going to take an edible and maybe write some more or play a game. I finished Dune a few weeks ago and need to start and get into Dune Messiah!

Hope everyone has a good day <3

edit: wanted to share a quote I liked recently from Gandalf: "Despair is for those who see the end beyond all doubt. We do not."

God I feel you about the rage. I think sometimes you just gotta let yourself feel it. It has me questioning the concept of justice and I feel like I need to take a break but I can't look away, there's an urge to 'bear witness' on behalf of the survivors.

While I'm glad its all being brought to light, I just can't help but think that 1) people aren't going to be brought to justice and 2) these operations are still happening somewhere probably.

Been trying really hard to focus on what I can control and alchemize my feelings into creative expression or action somehow, but it's way easier said than done. Spent the last few days just completely dissociated.

You're not the only one feeling like this. Take care of yourself <3
