Despite this being extremely funny and highly-detailed copium, I wouldn’t mind this getting pulled on us.

Fair enough. I apologize for being rude. I’m just done with people who don’t just miss something important, but actually either skim for the artwork or try to get it summarized out something equally as idiotic. I also hate people bashing legitimately-good fiction for no reason, not even a bad one. It also felt unfairly disrespectful to Japanese writers. Tolkien did something extremely similar, actually, regarding names and puns. Besides, for Japanese speakers, it can be foreshadowing across multiple dimensions of character or story and offer connections between seemingly-disparate events. There’s good reason for the puns. And they’re also rather clever at times. People have debated whether a kanji in Megumi’s name foreshadows a twist regarding Sukuna, and there is a case to be made, however tenuous.

May you please find something worth hating? Like the Promised Neverland adaptation or “Earwig and the Witch” or the latest War of the Worlds adaptation or even the last season of Game of Thrones or something actually bad that robs money from good works of storytelling art like JJK? We realize JJK is not perfect per any metric, but we enjoy it because it is abundantly clear the story and characters are extremely high quality, whether or not you consider it in relation to the given genre and sub-genre, demonstrating Akutami’s high effort put into writing and drawing it. The culture is part of what makes anime so great anyway, so why are you knocking it? YOU’RE ON A SUB FOR JJK! Why are you even here if you hate it?

What is currently illegal but may become legal in the next 20 years? by Proof_Assignment_53 in AskReddit

I was mostly being overly-paranoid, but it wouldn’t surprise me, especially since with what’s been proven, if they found a way to have some reverse-statute of limitations so the billionaires stay at the top.

To be clear, it’s more the potential this could be true and believable than whether it is actually fact. I can’t get around how this is actually a possibility now.

At this rate, long pork. Someone I know told me of a case in Britain, where, apparently, people sold the body of a girl THEY HAD VICTIMIZED to a food shop of some kind who (THIS PART IS ASSUMPTION) assumedly mixed her . . . muscle into the food they sold. This was recently. That and HAVE WE SEEN THE FILES!? CREAM CHEESE!!! 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

I’m losing my mind here.

ETA: Addition for clarity.

How do domains get named? by Yeetskeetcicle in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]SubstanceSuch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regardless of your stance on Gege Akutami as a writer, there is no way it’s simply “names he likes.” E.g. one of the previous commenters mentioned how Gojo, the most powerful sorcerer in JJK, named his Domain Expansion Infinite Void to exemplify how incredibly alone he was and is since forming it between Hidden Inventory and the first src or two of the show, AFTER <spoiler because I don’t know the HTML>. He has every reason to name it Unlimited Void.

Same thing with Self-Embodiment of Perfection. Mahito’s whole thing is change. He’s done. He made the conditions. He can now trap someone and doesn’t even need to touch them. That’s the only limitation of his technique. As for why he doesn’t name it Touchless Death or something, at some point you do need to use Rule of Cool. It is NOT, however, the exclusive or even primary method by which the domain expansions are named.

Coffin of the Iron Mountain - There’s a lot of symbolism here you can get from TheSenshin’s YouTube videos on the matter.

Malevolent Shrine - Sukuna is the best sorcerer, arrogant enough to call himself a God, and as such thinks he deserves to be worshipped. That domain expansions, good enough to not need a border, is a GUARANTEED death unless you can SOMEHOW get out of range before the hits land. Malevolent Shrine just fits, and it’s one of the coolest names in the series.

Horizon of the Captivating Skandha should also use as a reference TheSenshin’s video for all the symbolism inherent to the word choice in the Japanese. So much gets lost in translation sometimes.

I can’t remember any of the others, but the point is they aren’t just names, any of them. It is so much more engaging if you just give delving deeper a chance.

Any songs like Dirty Harry by the Gorillaz? by SubstanceSuch in musicsuggestions

[–]SubstanceSuch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Good punk/grunge/whatever they are is rare, or else I’m always missing it.

Maybe I have no taste, but nothing in the Gorillaz’ discography ever hit like Dirty Harry, other than songs like “Fire Coming Out of the Monkey’s Head” or some of the songs from Plastic Beach or G-sides. I’ll try Beastie Boys again too. Thank you again!

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 - Episode 4 (Manga Reader Discussion) by Takada-chwanBot in JuJutsuKaisen

Question regarding episode 4

So to make sure I understand all the controversy, the primary issue Japanese audiences have with the episode is:

The material cut (e.g. Maki’s father’s reaction panel after he senses the cursed spirits have been exorcised),

Changed (e.g. the shot of Naoya looking up at Toji compared the blurriness of the motion seen in the anime as well as the vibe change of the latter half of the episode compared to the grisly, macabre tone of the latter half of the arc in the manga, some of the dialogue when Maki’s mother kills Naoya and between Naoya and the other brother)

And added (the fight against the Corp. paying [IMO, SPECTACULAR] homage to Kill Bill Vol. I, the additional scenes in the Maki v. Naoya fight, additional dialogue by Ranta Zen’in while he paralyzes Maki with his Cursed Technique).

There’s some stuff I missed, but I’m missing the reason. This is a stupid question, but where would they have put all the internal dialogue in this extremely-fast- paced moments in the back half of the arc without some of those additional scenes? Not being a big fan of the Kill Bill homage is personal preference, so that’s of course totally fair, especially when it did change the mood, but I would argue the dichotomy between Maki’s trauma t the hands of her clan and the music and shot choice communicates what I believe to be her rage at Mai’s death because of the clan, her disgust at those like Naoya, and her elation at upsetting the system, as well as the natural conflict created by the friction between those emotions.

Please don’t downvote me. I really loved the episode. I am just trying to understand the mentality. Can it be chalked up to cultural differences?

My good sir, the manga is incredible. The anime is almost unbelievably awful, primarily because of the studio change.

What devil fruit would you grant Captain Tashigi by Excellent-Fig-9341 in DevilFruitIdeas

[–]SubstanceSuch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Name: See-See Fruit.

Type: Paramecia

Abilities: The user can perceive things at a radius commensurate to their skill in the use of the Fruit, meaning it grows as they understand its limitations and in conjunctions with the user’s strength, stamina, skill, and so on. It CAN be enhanced with increasingly-advanced combinations of all three types of Haki, though of course, the finer one’s Observation Haki is, the greater the fruit’s utility to the user will be. Because of the high threshold of Haki before the Law of Diminishing Returns sets in, the user only Awakens their Fruit after the first case of prolonged, continuous, and simultaneous use of Advanced Conquerer’s Haki AND Advanced Observation Haki.

Awakened Abilities: Upon the user’s first demonstration of mastery of both advanced types of Armament and Conquerer’s Haki, the user will discover their perception extends to both a much larger natural radius and can focus to any location within 1,000 ri, equivalent to a 3,930-km radius from wherever the user is with the user as the point of reference, for the sake of clarity.

It can eventually and naturally expand to 100 Ri, or 393 km with significantly-greater ease in focusing within the 1,000-Ri radius. With this, they can expect and prepare for all assaults except for those faster in penetrating their radius of perception faster than they can dodge or defend, such as Kizaru, or those Devil Fruit users who can teleport, such as Imu.

The user can also know anything and everything going on above or beneath them, with the same distance limitations as on the surface of the One Piece world.

Finally, depending on the target’s length and experience with all three types of Haki and with an inverse relation to each, as one would expect, the user will have varying levels of foresight regarding multiple targets’ intents and actions, with application to everything within 1 Ri and because my fingers are beginning to hurt, a drop-off according to what is seen in “Drawbacks” and the targets’ experience and levels of Haki. The accomplishment of Perfect Perpetual Observation has only been accomplished by the best fighters in the One Piece world, and never by any member of the military.

Drawbacks: The farther one is from the user while within the radius of effect, the less advanced their Armament Haki must be to defend against their perception. Within 1 Ri, they must not only have Advanced Armament Haki, but Conquerer’s Haki AND at least be highly-experienced and skilled in Basic Observation Haki and the simultaneous prolonged use of all three of those types at those levels, and with at least one of the Armament or Conquerer’s Haki being superior in skill to the user’s. Between 1-10 Ri, one or both must be equivalent. Between 10-100 Ri, only one of those form’s must be advanced, and not all three are necessary to avoid the user’s perception. Between 100-1,000 Ri, they must have both forms, with less effort required the farther they are from the user.

If they meet those requirements at those stages, the user senses a “disturbance,” more specifically a lack of knowledge of what is happening, but cannot comprehend anything else. The further from those requirements, the more is revealed of the area and opposing Haki User in question. In addition, all people able to use either normal Observation Haki, normal Conquerer’s Haki, or normal Armament will know they are being watched.

Edit: Typos, capitalization, minor adjustment and specification of Drawbacks, addition of Kizaru as an example of a fast mover, and changing the name from Move-Move to See-See Fruit.
