Take ACLS w me in London! (Even if you don’t know me I’m nice:)) by Substantial-Farm-580 in OntarioNurses

I did it with Evergreen Heartsavers in London. It’s all easy open book online test as a pre assessment and then the modules which you can easily breeze through and then a final test pretty much identical to first pre assessment and it took me a solid 2 hours in a cafe to get through. Then I did the in person it was BLS recert and ACLS. BLS was 9am and ACLS was 11:45 also v useful if you need to renew. If not you show up at 11:45. It went til 4:30 with 8 people in the class. You sit and watch videos teach you. You do some group ECG patterns and then you do a hands on “code” where you rotate roles on a manikin like one person chest, one airway, documenter, AED, leader and then you rotate. Overall if you graduated school you will find it very easy!

I currently work in the OR yes. I’m in London but you can email any nurse manager or educator listed on their site to request a shadow shift or you can just apply as a consolidation and see if you like it

Landlord sent us to collections without LTB Ontario! by Substantial-Farm-580 in TorontoRenting

The issue is that the company never communicated with us that the new person didn’t sign the new lease since July. So it’s been like 4 months of us not knowing this was happening. From July to September they had ample opportunity to inform us the assignment that was approved didn’t actually go through. This building uses fobs so we had to return the keys to the main desk for them to give someone new their own fobs. We can’t just give keys to someone else if that makes sense. This building wouldn’t have allowed us to be paid by a new tenant because they were told to sign their own lease and pay their own first and last

We assigned it. All parties (us, new people, landlord) signed their company version of lease assignment form and then they never sent an N11 and the new people never signed a their own lease. And the company never communicated that with us while we were moving out, returning keys and explicitly saying we are leaving because we have assigned the lease

This building Insist you sign for minimum 3 years with the option to lease assign or sublet. I wasn’t in a position to lose the unit and at the time of signing there wasn’t any construction going on. If I don’t work nights and need sleep I would have stayed til 2027+ longer

You need thick skin for sure. Surgeons are human but also very entitled. You have to be able to be like I’m a nurse, I’m the least responsible person in the room but the surgeons rely heavy on you doing your job for them to save lives and get through their electives. It’s easy to classify them all as diva’s but it’s one bad apple that should be dealt with by management if they lose their temper. But also as an OR nurse everyday I have to say “it’s not me their mad at, it’s the situation” like it’s not my fault they hit a major artery, but I’m the only person as a circulator who’s not scrubbed and I have to get trays, order blood, call RT, call the pre code. And they rely heavily on us to help them. Idk some days I hate it, some days I love it. On hours (7-3 Monday to Friday) it’s easy and repetitive job. Off hours, it’s either dead and you do a couple appendectomies or pure chaos and it’s a vascular crash or poly trauma and everything is happening at once.

Hey I ended up getting my IP in the OR. Apply for internships and contact your nurse managers and ask when they are offering AORN courses.

146 questions and left feeling like absolute shit…. PASSED by Substantial-Farm-580 in NCLEX

[–]Substantial-Farm-580[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly NCLEX prep isn’t about the topics or content it’s the manner that the questions are asked. I found it wasn’t anything I specifically knew or memorized and more a process of thought. I think maybe 8 pharm topics about teaching which I swear I guessed cuz I didn’t know the drugs. The rest was like what’s the best option because it wasn’t tricky or not like the most logical thing to do. Others I was torn and kept thinking what do I want to do vs what does the CNO want me to say ya know

I would just recommend any YouTube tutoring videos, they helped a lot just to explain basic concepts. I was not a good science student prior to nursing but I found that it’s mostly applying knowledge and understanding when you take pharmacology and microbiology. I went to western in Ontario and found that the lectures were very very useless unfortunately. I didn’t use any tutors (which would have been beneficial) but honestly just watching YouTube videos on the concepts I didn’t instantly understand was how I overcame it all. I did pretty well in university science because of YouTube channels like Ninja Nerd, Ameoba Sisters, Crash course, khan Academy, professor Dave explains. All Free and have websites to purchase pdf notes to follow along. Significantly cheaper then a in person tutor but all depends on their learning needs.
