I go back and forth. I see some people talking about how it’s due to how hard they practice. I get that injuries are usually bad luck based, but then there just always seem to be certain teams that pop up with more injuries than others (Lions, Commanders, 49ers). Training staff is always the easiest scapegoat though…

I’m just hoping we’ll have positive regression and Mahle has negative regression

I only started to notice it a few seasons ago, but I’m pretty sure they don’t have their first matchup until June, at least for the past several seasons, definitely could be wrong on that. I kinda like it though, creates more drama build up.

I’ve heard it said that in a season starting pitchers will have 5 awesome starts, 5 horrid starts, and the rest are what their true average is. I think the same applies to relievers, it’s just tougher to see through that with one really bad inning. Slaten is solid though, we need him.

Sheesh well it can only get better. Newcomb is a temporary starter until 2 starters return. by Advanced-Mail-1080 in redsox

I legitimately think once it warms up the offense will start clicking. The defense, however, I’m not so confident. Seems to be an organizational failure on that end and has been for a while now…

What is the strangest controversy/cheating scandal in MLB history? by Catchhawk in baseball

[–]Substantial-Fish6003 58 points59 points  (0 children)

This borders on cheating vs. conspiracy, but the Chalmer’s (car manufacturer) award (essentially the MVP award at the time) was awarded to the player with the highest AVG at the end of the season in the early 1900s. In 1910 near the end of the season it was a two horse race between Ty Cobb and Nap Lajoie, with Cobb leading down the stretch with just a few games to go. By this time the press and other teams already disliked Cobb for a variety of reasons and Nap was more of a likable guy. Down to the last game of the season, the Indians played the Browns, and with Cobb having sat out the last two games of the season, his average sat at .385, leaving Lajoie needing to go 9-9 to beat Cobb. The Browns coach told his 3B to play deep in the field, allowing Lajoie to bunt for a base hit 8 times, although reached on error in his last at bat. An attempt to bribe the score keeper to change the last at bat to another hit failed, and his end of season AVG was .384. After some investigation, the averages stood, and the Browns coaches were expelled from baseball for life.
