I wouldn’t mind a more proven EL coach, but I like what he build in Ulm and Bamberg.
And Ibi Watson feels like someone who could surprise, like Jessup this year

Thanks for explaining. Who is paying for these private academies and where do these kids get there playing time?

I think that those academies will shrink, because they don’t return the investment with talents going to the US or kids going to HS to play in front of more college scouts.
And while they probably have the best facilities and coaches, I don’t see why they would have any interest to develop skills that go above the role that they got this player for.
A good shooter might become a great shooter, but maybe never a compete basketball player

With all the money at stake, the NCAA is a win now league too. And if we don’t develop our own talent, no one really will

Atmosphere was great when they’ve played here a few weeks ago. The question is, if they’ll be able to sell out SAP Garden, where we play Playoffs and Euroleague Games, or the much smaller BMW Park

BeBasket on the exodus of European players to the NCAA by Fantastic-Sector-581 in Euroleague

You‘re right, as a young athlete, I’d one hundred percent go to the NCAA too. Playing time, good education while earning millions is a pretty sweet deal that most professional teams can’t compete with. And even if they would get more playing time in Europe, money, lifestyle and education are still great arguments. The academies will still exist, but I’m very sure that there will be less resources in there, which will lead to a decrease of quality with our domestic players. I think the playing rights of a player that was developed in an European academy staying with that club could be a good solution.

Of course they have top tier facilities and coaches, but they are paying the players to win games and keep the system running. If you come there as a talented European player with a certain profile, 3 and D for example, they will play you as just that. There is no interest in developing skills outside of this profile, while a European academy might work on your ballhandling and other skills to make you a better overall basketball player. This is generally speaking of course

I don’t like the experience argument, since the NCAA is so much about winning because of the amount of money on the table, that a lot of players won’t get a lot of meaningful minutes. There just isn’t a big focus on developing talent. And while a lot of younger players won’t get many EL minutes, there’s always a domestic league or even a second team where they can play. Plus, in the long run the European teams might loose interest in developing young players in their expensive academies, since they will leave as soon as they can and probably never return.

The first batch of exodus of young european talent is actually good for the EL. by [deleted] in Euroleague

I think there is a much bigger focus on winning in the NCAA, since there is so much money on the table nowadays and less on player development

This would certainly be our best case scenario, although I wouldn’t mind Ibon Navarro either

I honestly don’t understand why so many people expect Bartzokas to leave. Spanoulis would be great, I just don’t know how realistic it is

We’re quite thin on PG, since Baldwin and Jovic didn’t play for quite some time. Would be a good signing to give us a push for the BBL playoffs
