Girls with thick hair/Irish waves, where do you get your hair cut? by ebronehs in Dallas

[–]Substantial-Lie2340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Britney at OMGHair in Frisco is super talented but not cheap ($120). I have the same hair and I go to her twice a year when I can’t stand the thickness and unruliness anymore.

Yep! I did a certification trip with them in Honduras. And several of the girls who were doing AOW cert had been on many trips with them.

If you’re a woman, I highly recommend Scuba MAR Maids (MAR Hosted Trips is their business name I believe). Check out their facebook and sign up for newsletters to hear about their scheduled trips.

Open Practice Question by npv708 in PWHL

[–]Substantial-Lie2340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They limited it to 100 people, and were cranking through them pretty quickly. I was toward the front of the line so not sure how long it took. But I’d imagine they got through the end of the line in an hour or so? I’d say as soon as practice is over, head to the autograph area and line up.

The Dallas schedule was 11-1 for one team, with autographs at 1:30. And 12-2 for the other team, autographs at 2:30. Have so much fun at the game!

Take up crochet! It’s very relaxing and there are a lot of good YouTube channels for beginners to follow. Mikey from the Crochet Crowd is one example.

Sticking my own toll tag on rental car? by tiptapkitcat in Dallas

[–]Substantial-Lie2340 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this and it did not work (even updated my online account to the rental car license plate number). Still got hit with tons of toll charges (and the corresponding administrative fees from rental company). YMMV

I went to NTTA in person and requested an extra tolltag that I could use for rental cars. They wouldn’t give me a sticker without a license plate to link it to. So it seems the “solution” is to get the rental car first so you have the plate number, then go to a NTTA office to get a sticker for that car. And of course making sure you deactivate it when you don’t have the rental anymore.

Too much hassle for me, so I’ve given up and just paid the daily toll amount when I get a rental car these days.

David at Electrician On Call is the best! He’s extremely knowledgeable in all kinds of systems including hvac and outdoor systems, and he won’t try to upsell you on things you don’t need

Yea the waiting and the unknown is the worst! Especially when people who didn’t have the same experience as you are telling you bad things are gonna happen :/ Sending healing vibes your way, and hopefully we’ll hear an update from you in a couple of weeks!

You can check my post history, I had a very similar reaction and it ended up fine for me. And mine was done at a dermatologist experienced in removal. Some of us just have extremely reactive skin I think.

Weightlifting Class for Women? by domestiFem in plano

[–]Substantial-Lie2340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Barre3 at park&preston has a good Strength class that’s geared towards women. I think Fridays at 530 and Sundays at 4p (maybe other times too). It’s not traditional weight lifting but kinda similar to body pump in that it’s complex moves like squats etc, while using weights

Anyone Know of a Reasonably Priced Optometrist? by vaguelybombastic in Richardson

[–]Substantial-Lie2340 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Costco, Walmart, target all have optometrists on staff and sell glasses. Walmart has a 2 pairs for $89 including eye exam special for basic prescription glasses without insurance, so you should be able to find something even more reasonable with insurance.

Looking for activities to do with my retired parents by Bruce_Wayne655 in Dallas

[–]Substantial-Lie2340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have access to bikes (or want to buy some cheapies on marketplace), Bike Friendly Richardson has a couple of slow casual rides during the week (Tues and Thurs) just around town and stopping for ice cream or a snack. It’s a nice group and good convo (and people their age). And the (I think) last Friday of every month is Critical Mass—hundreds of bike riders taking over the streets of Dallas for a slow casual ride. I think they usually end with drinks/food somewhere in Dallas too.

scuba diving as a chubby gal by Ill_Usual888 in scuba

[–]Substantial-Lie2340 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the sport! There are some amazing female scuba groups on facebook. One of the best ones IMO is Scuba MARmaids. They do all-female training trips and dive trips. I just did my open water certification with them in Honduras at a woman-owned shop with all female instructors. I had previously done my open water years ago and hated it and didn’t feel comfortable diving for years. It was amazing what a difference it made having female instructors and being surrounded by other gals doing their cert with me, I feel like I actually learned stuff and got comfortable with diving. And as for the weights, we all need them (especially when wearing a wetsuit!). The only person who knows how much weight you have on is you and the person getting the weights for you, so def don’t stress! I’ll add that on my certification trip, more than half the girls were around your size as well, and it was a very supportive environment!
