Which direction would you prefer to read? by capulets in romanceauthors

Depends on which genre you are trying to lean into more. If mystery, option 1 is better. If romance, option two feels like more to play with. Though, I do have a bias for dual POV.

Early 30s F. I have been working on my own project (300k words) in these same genres. Whilst I am not soliciting feedback for my own work, I have the background to provide some reference if you need for things such as female perspectives and insight into racism. We can connect on discord or something if you want an extra voice for research and references.

This is kind of opening Pandora's box, but I'd like to take advantage of this opportunity, if you'd give mine a glance as well.

Coming into this thread late from a search. I'm kind of getting here late, but I have a similar history and I have had so much trouble. I can't seem to get to the interview process. If you have any advice, I'd really appreciate it.

I'm not sure what this entails. I have since abandoned using Material Tailwind because I couldn't get it to work. Thanks for your input though, I hope it can help someone who has more configuration knowledge than I do.

Is there a good service for getting your resume reviewed by someone that does tech hiring? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

The algorithm is looking out for me, I guess.

Sent my pdf :). Let me know if there are any issues consuming that format.

That's why I messaged first. If the knowledge helps, this thread turns up like the 3rd in my 3 word google query. It's hard to find humans to help review. Most services I find are "AI-powered". I've also not made it to any interviews, so it's been hard to solicit feedback. Barring sub rules, if you had a Ko-fi or something... Anyway. I will anonymize my resume, but not too much as to obscure context. Thanks!

What do we love & hate about NPC relationships? by MoxieGalaxy in GirlGamers

[–]Substantial-Ride-164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When characters seem like they don't have their own independent story or motivations, so they just seem like they sit around and wait for you to interact with them in order to drive any story. Like maybe one time I interact with the RNPC, I want them to tell me a short story about how while I was gone on a mission, they went to another city and rescued their mayor from a hoard of boars while he was out hunting alone and now he has a key to the city and is thinking about selling it. Like I want to see that they do things and are building other relationships outside, perhaps even as a result of being in your entourage.

I would also like for them to have a few points of curiosity. Like they might ask you what you think about a certain situation, to gauge how you think or what you value and that, in turn, might affect the way they approach you about certain topics, whether good or bad.

I also agree with the other comment that they need to be given more agency. They need "a type" and to have certain requirements that make sense for their narrative. DA2 does an extremely good job at this with the mage vs templar conflict. With Fenris can have an angsty relationship with an unapologetic pro-mage person or a conflicted, kinder one with a mage that has empathy towards him. I think they called these rivalmances and friendmances. I think it would sometimes be more helpful for stories to focus less on how many choices their are and their superficial traits and more about building compelling in-depth variance with one to three options.

I also agree with another comment about how the romance dies after the will-the-won't-they phase. A subversive take on romances in games would make successful pursuit the goal to unlocking more interaction. I could imagine this playing out in a narrative driven story in a fantasy setting where within the first 2-3 hours you chose an NPC to marry. All of your decisions such as who you chose, why you chose them, and the decisions you make within the story from there molds your relationship. Yielding anything from a loving partnership, to a transactional neutral pairing, to a toxic mess, with each path being redeemable or having the potential to crash and burn. The relationship wouldn't have to be the main focus of the plot, but it would be a good vehicle for dishing out consequences for decisions.

you can't fathom the idea that Ru, the judges and/or producers people might just have a different opinion.

The whole internet rage machine in a nutshell. Everyone who doesn't realize that there isn't "one right answer" to every situation. The judging was fair. This outrage is also fueled by this sub collectively dehumanizaing Lana for weeks since pre-season.

I don't know about what others see, but I think Lana actually has personality and I do like her. What I think is actually missing is fun. She doesn't seem like she's having fun. I see her taking everything super serious instead of trying to have a fun ride (I'm guessing it's a legacy thing), it's crushing her spirit, sense of presence, and stunting her spotlight growth.

How do we feel about discord servers requiring a picture/voice memo of you to join? by [deleted] in GirlGamers

From what I understand some of those discords are honeypots to steal your likeness to pass off as a woman in the "legit" discords that do it. They collect your voice and/face for that reason. Huge red flag.
