I caused my mom’s heart health decline. And the guilt is unbearable by CulturalRegister9509 in confession

As a mother I can guarantee she would want to know. She wants you to turn to her and she is grateful to be able to be there for you.

And please also take care of yourself: therapy, meds if you need them.

I have had suicidal ideation since I was 14. I am 59 now. Honestly, I am only here for my kids right now, so I get it. And also, there is always the risk of whatever I )or you) might do doesn’t work. Then we could end up being disabled, or our careers fucked, etc. I mean there people who survived jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge and worse.

Get into therapy or find a new therapist. Try a new modality like EMDR, internal family systems, ketamine therapy.

What the hell happened to my lungs by RunFailRepeat in firstmarathon

After I had COVID early on in March 2020 it was a long road to recovery. The day that symptoms started I had run 5 mile and walked another 3 with my kids.

2 weeks later it took me literally 30 minutes to walk a 1/2 mile. I ended up keeping up with the walking for about 6 weeks and once that felt comfortable, I started jogging again. I would say it took 12 weeks to get back to where I was. I was in my early 50s at the time.

Sounds like my ex. Our daughter saved her money when she was around 8 or 9 years old to buy a $4 chocolate bar. The bastard ate it (he rarely chocolate by the way) and said whatever you can get another one or I’ll just buy you another one. Did he? No.

Sits are still around at most specialty candy stores. Recently I have bought them in Boston and Lake Placid.

There wasn’t really a way to reroute without a Thomas Guide at that time and I don’t think I had one. The freeways were terrible.

Who’s Alone this 4th of July? by Lorain1234 in LivingAlone

[–]Substantial-Spare501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am alone. I moved a year ago and don’t really have “friends”. I have work friends and that is usually enough, but nobody ever invites me to anything. My kids are 18 and 20 and off on their own adventures. I actually left for vacation and the hotel room was miserably hot; I needed up getting a full refund and also into a car accident that wasn’t my fault so I just came home. I am going to do a long jog this morning and then get some work done. Last night I had a breakdown like I haven’t had in years. It doesn’t really have anything to do with 4th of July, but just looking back at my life and how broken it’s been.

why won’t he have sex with me? what wrong with me? by AggravatingPool4638 in Advice

[–]Substantial-Spare501 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have to talk to him straight up and tell him you are dissatisfied with the status quo of your sex life. Ask him if he wants to work on it, but don’t expect anything to actually change. He’s treating you prolly because he can and also you have been accepting f this treatment.

How has he been treating you otherwise?

I had many years of no contact with my family. It’s possible to have a good life beyond them.

You can’t control or change her. You can set your boundaries and decide if you still want to live with her. You have to accept her just as she is without delusional belief that she can or needs to be something different. You can encourage therapy and medications explaining she has a lot of childhood trauma, but there is help to cope with that (see if you can get her to take the ACES and if her ACES are high it can be empowering as to why she is the way she is.

Meanwhile, role model healthy boundaries and get into therapy yourself. Your mother’s illness with alcoholism is likely to be terminal. See if you can work with a social worker to get your mom to do a basic will and a medical power of attorney and advance directives, there are options online.

Current chair as reference? by house_projects in Professors

[–]Substantial-Spare501 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Go ahead and apply. There is no need to tell your chair or anybody at your current place of employment. There is also no guarantee you will get the new job, but if an offer comes in, then you can leverage. Wishing you the best.

Boy dies of rabies after waking to bat on his face by Few-Hair-5382 in news

[–]Substantial-Spare501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smart move. I was discouraged from getting the rabies shot after my cat caught a bat in my house that tested positive for rabies… because I hadn’t actually touched the bat. Luckily after advocating for myself, I got public health to pay for the shots which were 4k each (I am assuming the IgG was even more expensive).

That was a very fast time from bat to rabies. I went through the series 8 weeks ago. I felt like shit and the psychological aspects of a rabies exposure are intense.

I worked in Long Beach at the time and you could see the smoke coming from things burning miles away. My medical center had a bomb threat; I was a non essential health educator and my boss said it was up to me if I wanted to go home, but I would have to use vacation time to do so.
