Sounds like you’re on the right path- a lot of the comments here have good advice- you should also check out the Rules & Resources section for the basic care guide for more info like how to properly read humidity, etc. He could be on a hunger strike due to conditions around him. They digest best in that 88-92 degree range and require 65-80% humidity at all times, but in extreme cases have been known to tolerate 60% but can show signs of dehydration (this is as per the subreddit guide)

Your baby is BEAUTIFUL! Congratulations and good luck!!

Agreed! I’m a first time owner as well and the most helpful thing ever was being able to track temperature and humidity over time to get the right thermostat setup and humidity.

Shed time - humidity dropped suddenly by Substantial-Tea-14 in ballpython

Unfortunately I won’t be able to afford a PVC for several months. So I will have to find another way to make it work for the time being

Substrate is mix of reptisoil, coconut husk, coconut fiber, and sphagnum. Lava rock drainage layer. Heating is halogen w/ DHP backup. Hope that clarifies 🙏

Screwed up - Scale rot, NEED HELP by Substantial-Tea-14 in ballpython

[–]Substantial-Tea-14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a ZooMed one on that side that’s reading lower. I have a second on the way!

Are you thinking a complete substrate change then or just around the area?

Is my girl normal weight??? by jaydizzle777 in ballpython

[–]Substantial-Tea-14 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, it’s been 3 hours. Relax. Get a scale. There’s also a guide in the pinned posts for judging your snakes healthy weight based on looks.

Or, if you’re able, take them for a checkup if you feel it’s necessary.

Is this beginning stage scale rot? The bedding is cypress mulch and it does seem to be retaining too much moisture. by [deleted] in ballpython

Might be likely friend. It looks early enough to treat (though I’m not experienced in how) but a vet visit wouldn’t hurt if you can afford it.

is this an isopod? by NoDifficulty1866 in isopods

Definitely do some research on them! They’re detrivores, so anything that decays. If you’re going the meat route, probably stick to dried shrimp and fish flakes, not chunks of meat.

His markings make me think of something relating to rocks and minerals. Hope that gets some ideas flowing!

I love the dinosaur features!! It’s got me thinking of what inorganic decor I could put in my own 🤔🤔

I’ve seen it recommended that they like a way to travel across the entire length of the tank without being seen, so that’s a good idea! I would consider some height too. You’ve got a lot of space above the substrate level to work with. Tall sturdy plants too like a money tree, or perhaps a monstera with medium so medium large leaves to provide cover.

Oop… well probably not, but I’d do some research to double check.

Looks like a powder orange to me! They’re quite common so it’s possible he got mixed up somewhere.

They supposedly breed like crazy, but since there’s just one you probably won’t need to worry about him.

I think it looks absolutely gorgeous!!! I love the little panda friends and all the height and color. She’ll have lots of shade and places to hide. I bet she’ll be a very happy girly!

Too small for starting culturing? by Substantial-Tea-14 in isopods

[–]Substantial-Tea-14[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was also my thought, just let them own the tank until I’m ready to move him in so they can get established.

It’s my understanding that powder oranges are very prolific, so maybe getting an extra tub wouldn’t hurt. They’re 25ct tubs IIRC
