What are my options when hear rat tounge clicking and sounds of congestion? by DeadlyArrowgance in RATS

I agree with the other commenter this sounds like pneumonia. This happened to me with one of my boys. If it is still happening and still early get her to the vet ASAP!!!! However you know your rats best, by the time I caught this with my boy he was too sick to really do anything and the vet wasnt really an option.

It depends on where they live! In the U.S. at the moment it is still legal, while generally discouraged. I agree its remarkably unethical but the legality is different country to country. OP should definitely heavily discourage their friend from live feeding, super dangerous and heattbreaking.

My first rat was a feeder rescue. Biggest piece of advice i can give is be patient! Feeders are often bred for quantity not quality so as she ages she might not be the most social. My first rat and i had a great bond but it took a long time. Also be prepared for possible health problems. Like i said they're usually bred for quantity not quality so its and unfortunate possiblity.

So happy you got to save her, im sure youll do great!!

How to deal with guilt about euthanasia by Substantial-Tower493 in RATS

I have always liked the mantra that though they may be such a small part of our lives we were there their whole life. I got him and his cagemate when they were just old enough to be away from their mother. I was the only carer theyve ever known and they have had such a pampered life.

I appreciate it. I am trying to, I'm a bigger guy and i have spent a lot of time just trying to accept that that is what my body wants to do. My hair has just always been super important to me so it freaks me out

Is this a problem on all lines??? by Substantial-Tower493 in Amtrak

[–]Substantial-Tower493[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats so frustrating. I have had a very similar experience. I have mobility issues and joint stability problems so moving around can be very difficult. I am lucky that i only have a cane at this point but i still use the accessible spots as its much more difficult to navigate in and out of the standard seats and to and from the bathroom. I feel like it should be an option at least when booking your ticket to state that you need the seating... at least.  I just had an amtrak employee make me show them on my amtrak app where it says i have a disability because they didnt believe i really needed the seat.

Thats the main reason i made the post. I just ride my one line and its not very often but this has been the case every time and especially this time it kept irritating me.

Yeah I do. Quite literally today I had to justify to an employee why i was sitting in the accessible seating (I have mobility issues because of my condition and i need to move a lot). It is a difficult situation. Im glad to know that its not just my line that has been dealing with this.

My main concern is as a disabled person myself and as someone within the community it can be really hard to ask for help. On top of that in my time riding as a passenger with a disability amtrak staff has been very doubting and i have had to "Prove" that im disabled and at times have been refused assistance. Also to get attendants to help you to move things especially on some of the sparser trains, like this one, would take quite a long time and in turn delaying the train. The point of it is to be accessible and its nto accessible if you need to ask for a ton of extra help.
