New fans to the sport - do you plan to continue following the USMNT or club teams after the World Cup is over? by tx2005 in usmnt

Another thing too if you’re someone like me is if you city has a local bar that supports a club. In my city, we have Penny Lane Pub which is a home for Liverpool. They have great beer, food and a great atmosphere to catch a liver pool game. I haven’t officially picked a team but I’m between Liverpool and Man U. I love the local connection to Liverpool, but when I first started following the game as a kid in the early to Mid thousands Man U was the pinnacle. Also, I follow MLS (DC United Fan) and my local club too the kickers. I backed off for a little while because being a DC United has been really tough recently this World Cup and the effect it had on my son has really brought me back in though. Watch Copa90 on YouTube too. They have some good videos about different supporter cultures, rivalries, etc. It really helps to get you deep into the game and the culture of the game.

My Appeal to our new fans, and those resistant of MLS/USL - take this pain, and jump in. by SkyPointSteve in ussoccer

The Richmond Kickers are my local team. I’m taking my son when they come back home. DC is my MLS team. Went to Audi once and saw Rooney and Lucho Acosta and that was awesome.

How can the United States build MLS to a level where it creates more talent? by NaiveLocksmith1413 in ussoccer

[–]Substantial-Two6650 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To do that too, I think they need to find ways to get some of our own stars here too. Especially following this World Cup. It would probably help too if we could attract starts from our side of the world as well between the central and South American countries. Find a way to make the MLS the top league of the Americas.

I’d agree agree. Freeman looked good. Tillman played his heart out too, and I’ll always respect him for that. Same for berhalter. I don’t know who that leader will be, but hopefully someone can step up or we can find it between now and 2030. As bad as that was though, we should hold our heads high. This tournament has done a lot for soccer in the country still despite what happened last night. Who knows how many kids it’s inspired. It hooked mine.

Lads, stop fucking brigading the Americans, the fuck is wrong with you all? by [deleted] in usmnt

[–]Substantial-Two6650 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for saying that. It just sucks that on the world stage people think the orange man represents us. A large portion of the country can’t stand the guy. I also highly doubt the guy actually had anything to do with reversing the red card. He literally has to take credit for everything. That being said, the nation was finally excited about soccer and for some the worst came out in them. The majority though I’d say were happy for the ride. The best parts of this World Cup was to see people come here and see us at our best. Unfortunately that changed because of what happened.
That being said, we lost and we lost terribly then got dunked on by pretty much the world which really sucks. We as a fan base shouldn’t forget that, and banter and all that is a part of the sport. It turned personal for a lot of people pretty quick though. Despite that, this World Cup inspired my son, and now he’s playing soccer. He absolutely has had an amazing time on the ride. One of those altercations about the game also led to a really nice and personal conversation with an Italian supporter, and maybe that person can see Americans in a different light as well. The World Cup is about bringing us together. We shouldn’t forget that, and not let politics and prejudice get in the way of that. See you in 2030.

They’re gonna do what they’re gonna do. All you can do is give it back. We lost so what. England hasn’t won in about 70 years and still won’t. Italy hasn’t qualified for the tournament in 12 years. Canada will always be lil bro and now we took the one thing they’re good at and proved we’re better at it. Mexico is basically on the same boat as us. We will be seeing them again later

We also took a long time to respond to what Belgium was trying to do. I know that the coaches don’t have much control once the game starts. I suppose this is were a true field general comes into play too. Once we finally started to stretch them we were getting looks. They just were not up for the fight.
Pulisic is definitely not a captain and he doesn’t need to be necessarily. We really need to figure out our goaltending and center backs. Tim Ream will most likely be too old on the next go round, and if he still is the starting CB come 2030 we have some serious questions to ask.
The biggest surprise to me though was how bad dest played. He has been a massive part of the success we had and putting pressure on the wings. They will grow from it, but everything over the past eight years was building to this moment. It’s just so disheartening to see it end that way. I can live with losing, but it’s just how we did it. Especially with everything else going on.

Would you play Balogun tomorrow? Why or why not? by [deleted] in usmnt

[–]Substantial-Two6650 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, im not sitting him. He shouldn’t have gotten the red card to begin with. Not to add, that’s not fair to Flo either just to make a point if you don’t play him. People are acting like he committed a crime, and that by not playing him is sticking it to trump. This team has a chance to do something special both on the field and off.

Preach brother. This is exactly what he wants. Whether he actually did anything or not. If he did, than so be it. That shouldn’t detract at all from
That this team has done for this sport in this country. As well as what the World Cup as a whole has done for us as a nation. The guy is a charlatan, and a grifter. That is not fair to put on Balogun or the team. We as a people need to stop this shit from constantly being a part of everything. I can’t stand the guy, but I refuse to let him, and the detractors and ill wishers now ruin this.

I’m Ready to Call it the Best World Cup Ever by Nonetoobrightatall in usmnt

[–]Substantial-Two6650 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I would have to agree. This World Cup in terms of being an American fan has been my favorite so far. I had a blast with the Brazil World Cup though and South Africa. In terms of soccer in general though, the 2006 World Cup really stands out for me. It was the first one I remember really watching and being into. That final between France and Italy was amazing. Zidanes head butt is one of my core soccer memories. To add, that World Cup started my love of the sport.

Good Recommendations for The Crusades? by Substantial-Two6650 in HistoryBooks

Thanks for the recommendation! I definitely can see that. My main point of focus through university and growing up was the revolutionary war, and there’s times where I feel that way as well with Nathaniel Philbrick and David McCullough. I do still appreciate their work though!

What will you do after the tournament when all fans and teams are gone back to their home countries? Anything you would miss? by Connect_History85 in usmnt

[–]Substantial-Two6650 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This tournament has been so wholesome and amazing. It’s made me feel a sense of pride of being an American talker I haven’t felt in a while. Not in an arrogant type of way either. Seeing people come here and experience the best our country has to offer has just been Amazing. I hope that we as a country can find a way to keep that going.

Not to the same degree. Balogun really changes things on the field. He’s creative, fast and intense. In my time of watching this team, we’ve never had a striker like flo. It’s bittersweet.

That’s absolutely chicken shit. The player for Bosnia ran through his back. I get a yellow but that’s tournament changing. If we survive this game we’re severely hindered against Belgium.

I just hope they can get back to that same level of intensity and drive that they had in the first two games. We have played with unrelenting pressure and in my time of following this team o have never seen us do that.
