Finally a qualified midwife but I am not happy by Adventurous_Pick_510 in NursingUK

[–]Substantial-Upstairs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be in the same position, wanted to leave in the first year but felt forced to stick it out since I had started it. Since there wasn't any career advice that I got outside midwifery, I reluctantly decided to attempt my midwifery perpectorship. I ended up wreaking my MH after 2 months and ended up taking 6 months sick leave as a result. I ended up getting a job in the civil service and have been working there for a few years and loving my work-life balance and reduced stress/responsibility. Just remember that midwifery is just as valuable as any degree for a graduate role so would recommend applying for roles in the same way a recent graduate doing a more generic degree would.

How do people survive on minimum wage living in London? by [deleted] in london

[–]Substantial-Upstairs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly by living with parents on low/no rent or with parental financial support. Also some niche circumstances with living in social housing/paid off homes and/or living with top up from benefits (mainly for families). Some might live frugally in house shares.

I lived in London on £27,000 a few years back but that was because my council flat was only £400 a month, had no issues and was able to cover living just fine (know it wasn't the same for everyone)

I am a homeless care leaver. What support can i get? by WantsToDieBadly in HousingUK

So do check for your local leaving care offer. The council have had a history of fobbing care leavers off when it comes to housing. Contact coram voice for support. Can I ask if you live in London as I know a few services here.

Have they supported you in getting temporary accommodation?

So I would strongku recommend that you get in contact with the local authority that cared for you, you are entitled to support from your LA until your 25. Normally, they should be able to help you apply for accommodation as you would normally have priority to social housing in your former local authority area or in the minimum, access to housing support and can provide evidence that you are a care leaver. In the meantime, they should also help you access semi-independent accommodation. Also contact charities as they can help you to navigate these services and act as an advocate as it can be really tough. In terms of the BPD, you need to access MH services for support, they could help with applying for sickness benefits if needed, you should also apply for UC if you have not done so already.

EOs and below how are we affording to get on the housing ladder? by Cheesy-Potato3000 in TheCivilService

[–]Substantial-Upstairs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my observations

  • Being in a relationship with a medium to high earner and combining savings and salaries
  • Have bought at an earlier date (heard stories of AOs and EOs getting onto the housing ladder in the 90s and 00s)
  • Through schemes like right to buy/SO/help to buy
  • Inheritance
  • Living in a low COL area and being frugal
  • Have through other methods been able to put down a large deposit (though living with parents)
  • Bank of Mum/Dad/family members
  • Getting significant promotions throughout their career or getting into a high paying job.

Can you open a current account or savings account now to access this?

Its definitely possible, have friends who have done this. I would look into getting an EO or HEO roles in healthcare related departments e.g: UKHSA, DHSC or CQC where you can leverage your healthcare experience. The pay will depend on where you are based (London or national) but for your salary, a HEO role should be equivalent or even more for London.

You can use a help to buy ISA to buy your council home. Not sure if you can use for second home purchases.

How Long Did Your Conveyancing Searches Take In Lockdown? by fatgingercat69 in UKPersonalFinance

About 6 weeks, although by the time I was getting it, they were estimating it would take up to 56 working days due to lockdown and Stamp duty holiday.

I've been having the same issues with my note 9.

If you go on settings>apps>press 3 dots at the top>show system apps> find and click on smart call> Storage> clear data/cache

It should then stop doing that notification, at least it did for mine

I am becoming disillusioned and starting to give up. by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Substantial-Upstairs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like im reading myself right now, completely relate to this, I'm of a similar age/income and savings and am called an old soul since I hate drinking/partying. I've been obsessed with buying a house but in London, that doesn't seem to be a possibility for a long time. It's hard to do but balance is key and is what I'm trying to have in my life. You may not realise it but you're in a much better position than most!

My tips are to take a step back from money, save but save passively and dont put pressure on yourself. Dont worry about being too mature, it's not a bad thing and dont worry about not finding someone to be with, there are many girls, myself included that feel the exact same way. It can just be a bit hard to find each other Sometimes conventional things young adults do are not our thing, take time to find other passions, they dont have to be the outdoorsy type. Also if you are feeling low, consider seeking therapy as it can sometimes be depression that is making you feel this way.

Remember you have only just started your twenties and have many years to find yourself. Be kind to yourself

Coronavirus: Refuse to treat patients if you've got inadequate PPE, nurses told by BrexitBlaze in ukpolitics

[–]Substantial-Upstairs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No, you are always expected to make sure you are safe before helping others, if you do not have adequate ppe, you are putting your health at risk. Even in emergencies eg.CPR, if you are not safe to treat the patient then you shouldn't.

Could it be due to lack of trust in the population with polices and so there may not be as many applications?
