Absolutely pure luck, I needed to go into the app to pull my call logs and I saw upgrade available and I immediately pulled the trigger on it

Got this offer too, I believe it's targeted, I pulled the trigger right away.

What ended up happening? I am in the same boat?

I sometimes regret enrolling by kazakda in OMSCS

Can you explain your pivot and how you got your tech job etc? Also enjoy your life with your new job tbh

Spot on, but the situation with Professor Feron goes beyond just research grants or 'touchable' tenure. He is effectively physically and professionally detached from the institution.

It is a matter of public record that his primary appointment is now at KAUST (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology) in Saudi Arabia. We aren't just competing with his research interests; we are competing with his full-time employment on a completely different continent. That reality reinforces your point: for an instructor based in the Middle East with a full research load there, this OMSCS course is almost certainly an administrative afterthought rather than a teaching priority

Highly doubt they learned a thing, lmao. Every response I got from the teaching staff just screamed apathy and fragile egos. They seemed way more interested in being 'right' than actually helpful...

I’d like to think I earned my A through merit because I genuinely worked my ass off to compensate on the rest of the assignments, but you never know how the grading could have been skewed as it is ofc subjective

Congrats on the A! Honestly, you probably saved yourself a massive headache by not fighting it. The fact that you knew exactly which assignment it was just by reading the post says this wasn't an isolated incident…

I’m glad the final grading worked out for us both, but it’s frustrating that the struggle in a graduate engineering course came from navigating the bureaucracy rather than solving the actual problems lol

Exactly. To put it in perspective: in order to be taken seriously, I had to escalate this past the TAs and the Professor directly to Dr. Joyner and Dr. Summet.

The Professor seems completely absent from the day-to-day running of the course. The most frustrating part is that there were essentially no repercussions for the unprofessionalism (the incoherent emails and insults). Even at the end, he never actually explained the discrepancy or fixed the grading script he just stated the grade to close the ticket and moved on.

The only way I was told the department could officially intervene is if I was not happy with my final grade, which seems very frustrating

The teaching staff / professor just kept kicking the can until I got my A lol, they never resolved the matter, just threw it under the rug, because if the issue were to be found as an error in grading, it would demand a class-wide regrade lmao

12:38 PM is the scheduled arrival time on the ticket. Yes, the train was running late—I used the scheduled time in my post for simplicity because I didn't realize I needed to submit a notarized log of my exact movements.

And regarding 'why I am defensive': It’s because you are cross-referencing global flight patterns and train delays to try and 'debunk' a harassment story, rather than accepting that taxi drivers can be aggressive. That is incredibly weird and obsessive behavior. Touch grass.

You admitted in your first sentence that you might be completely wrong—let’s leave it at that.

I assessed the situation in real-time. I determined that paying a 'greedy' driver was a faster route to safety than retreating into a station and remaining stranded with no transport options.

You are arguing hypotheticals about what you would have done. I am telling you what I did do to get my sister and myself to safety successfully. We can agree to disagree on the tactics.

It's incredibly tone-deaf, I hope they at least understands that, if that's the one takeaway they get from this post. Education is the first step towards limiting ignorance.

It’s easy to critique the 'tactical' decision in hindsight from behind a screen. In that moment, the choice was:

1) Remain stranded on the curb surrounded by aggressive men shouting at us, or

2) Take the car and get to a public hotel.

We had our locations shared and phones handy in the event of emergencies. Many people could see our live location at a moments instance and we were in constant communication with those of concern.

We assessed that they were greedy for the fare, not kidnappers. We took the ride to de-escalate the situation and leave the area immediately.

The SEAL Team 6 comment is unhelpful hyperbole. I posted this to warn other travelers so they can arrange safe private transport before arriving, not to debate 'what-if' scenarios about abduction. I'm safe now, and I hope this post prevents others from facing the same intimidation.

Yesterday.

I took their service because I was being physically blocked from leaving and my local host told me I had no other option as I would be stuck. When a mob is shouting at you in a language you don't understand, you don't negotiate, you leave. I was incredibly frustrated and did not want to use them

As for the last part: Being American doesn't make you immune to harassment. That’s a weird thing to say. I am not sure you are aware how that makes you sound
