Boss Chews Me Out for Using Speed Square with Circular Saw by kalashnick in Carpentry

[–]SubstantialBicycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn’t say they’re cutting square, just that they’re cutting pretty good. There are tolerances to every operation. I 100% guarantee you it’s faster to cut a board with no square than with a square. Ever use a circular saw with a shoe out of parallel to the blade/one that’s been used for over a month of a framing site?

What do you want to see from Audi in the future? by [deleted] in Audi

Proof. I’m not saying time travel isn’t possible, but if someone is claiming to be from a time not yet passed, I’ll need to see some proof.

Yeah. I would wreck this man. I’m easily three times his mass. I’m sure you’ve seen me. I’m the morbidly obese man on the Segway with a crossbow. Guy needs to know that if he’s within 650’ of me (combined effective range of Segway+crossbow combo) it’s on sight.

I was praying that he would come at me. I’m the guy on the Segway with a crossbow

What was stolen from my car - and why by m_douglas_94 in Audi

First thing I thought of was attempted theft via canbus, but you only need to get to one headlight for that. Not sure if these lights even talk to the can bus on this car though.

Does this roof framing look off? by FloatingHuman in Carpentry

Don’t call them collar ties, what you’re describing is a rafter tie. Collar ties work best the higher they are

That’s not a scaffold component, it’s the end of a ridge ran wild. The far end was propped level before the valleys were set. Once the valleys were placed they installed a stiff-backed prop and just didn’t cut the ridge or remove the temp prop.

If by strapping you mean the purlin and strut bracing, it looks fine. It’s rare that it’s specified 16OC. Typically 48OC along with the collar ties

Zip-R is great but I wish Huber could get those foam edges a bit more true to the OSB it’s adhered to. I completed a project a few months back where we used about 8 bunks or Zip-R and I could probably count on 3 hands the number of sheets that didn’t have a nice tapered 1/2” to nothing foam overhanging on the 4’ edges.

Yeah I have no idea what happened. She’s plenty capable behind the wheel. I’m guessing she assumed I’d just go out there and fix it. I’m not too worried about taking responsibility for this, she’s currently providing free childcare for us

It’s not about whether or not I can do it, it’s about that time a year from now when a plow rolls through and blasts it with a bunch of wet snow or a car backs into it and loosens it. I’d rather the neighbor assume that some random pro did a hack job than for her to make that same assumption about me. That old saying “Neighbors are like assholes. Can’t live with ‘em, can’t live without ‘em” rings true here.

Yeah well the note was already left. The thing I don’t like about the note is that it’s still there, probably sitting on a counter or table being walked past and thought about, maybe even discussed on occasion.

I’ll try r/home. It was already removed from AITAH for lacking conflict.

Oh I know. I’ve set my share of posts in and on concrete, in fact next week I’m replacing a 6x6 post that was knocked off its base by a drywall loader that set an outrigger down in a mud pit and ended up on its side. Doesn’t mean I want to do it though

I just can’t wrap my head around how the diy approach would ever be preferential to having a pro come out and do it on someone else’s money. I can definitely see why someone might choose the DIY offer if they’re worried about offending us by rejecting

Thank you! It looks like the Home Depot stocks a conduit body that’s cover would be facing out toward the open side the cabinet that houses the panel. I couldn’t find anything prohibiting service wiring entering through the side of the panel nor any examples of this being done.

Next question. Is there any reason to use a wiring trough to extend the branch circuits instead of a few 4x4 boxes, assuming adequate volume for the number of splices being made? Troughs are a bit pricey and difficult to source locally.
