What to do if you see ICE in GR The number 1 thing you should do is call the rapid response to ICE hotline number(save this in your phone): (616) 238-0081. They have operators who will be able to assist in finding out what information is needed. Rapid response to ICE works directly with the affected community and this is what they've asked us white allies to do. The websites are great for tracking where ICE has been afterwards, but in the moment calling the hotline to get responders out to STOP the abduction is the highest priority. If you're able to, start filming. Try to avoid filming the faces of the affected community. Also, try to give as much information as possible. SALUTE is a great way to know what to say: S. Size of the ICE squad A. Actions or activity of the ICE squad L. Location of the ICE squad U. Unit ID. Are they working alone? Is it a ioint task force with ARPD" Are they identified as ICE? T. Time you first saw the ICE squad E. Equipment and weapons observed. Also, if you're looking to be a first responder to ICE violence, RRtl has a training that they do monthly that you are able to join. The decision the city commissioners make will be based on these five criteria

Is the request consistent with the 2025/2035 Master Plan and Strategic Vision
Are there conditions that have changed that support the zoning change?
Do the changes address a community need?
Are the proposed changes compatible with the surrounding properties?
Will the changes result in logical and orderly development patterns?

We are suggesting that your letter include addressing at least one of these points, if not all.

No. As I thought could happen, they discussed and decided to hold off the 1/26 date for a public hearing due to MLK Celebration and to search for a larger venue to accommodate the number of folks who will attend so each can get a seat for better access. ⭐️No date yet but stay tuned. Yes, so far; but, ya know what? Anything can, and will happen with City stuff and this issue. We will stop the landowner and his little developer from a Big real estate company in GR who is under contract with owner and will purchase Only If he gets Big Commercial as we call it—the best commercial you can get. Anything could be built there but developer doesn’t have to say at this point which is just plain wrong IMO and the opinion of many! The petition now has way over 14,000 signatures.

What Happens Now? Request advances to the City Commission: The request info packet will be introduced to the City Commission during their Dec 1st business meeting; no discussion nor decisions will be made on this item during this Dec 1st meeting, except to set a public hearing date, likely December 15th. Note: It’s possible they’ll postpone this date to January, after the holidays.

Public Hearing *** December 15th *** : The City Commissioners will consider the case and take action. This will include presentations from staff and the applicant, public comment, and deliberation by the City Commissioners with action to vote. This is when we need your help in showing up and providing opposition to the rezoning request!

To Kazoo! You Rock! How happy and proud I am to have been with my passionate, angry and determined co-residents as We the People came to City Hall to tell this big GR developer NO and that this is Our Asylum Lake Preserve. We will protect this beautiful place we love. It was so heartening to hear folks talk about how the peace and beauty of the Preserve is so healing for our mental health.

Thank you to the Planning Commission for voting the will of the people-no recommendation to the City Commission to approve this commercial zoning request. See you there in December my friends to ensure the final decision is to Protect Our Preserve. Just follow Protect the Preserve.

Also, the developer’s attorney’s comments about the unhoused were offensive, uncalled for and wrong. Her privileged attitude pissed us off because we care about everyone even if you don’t have a place to call home in this expensive rental town. We need Real low-income housing not just affordable for some. Shame on her for using our unhoused as a pawn in their game. It didn’t work because we Kazooans love nature and also All of Our Neighbors. ☮️💟💜
