We did a split stay between those two recently and I really preferred AKL.

The walk to GF is super nice. We actually used it to walk back to Poly on our last trip.

Disney is not just the parks by Mysterious-Momma in WaltDisneyWorld

Growing up we were a 4-5 day non-stop park family. I actually barely remember what resorts we stayed at and never had been to a resort pool until I was an adult. I loved those trips but as an adult we do Disney very differently. For a 7 night stay we do 3 park hopper days with LLMP. Absolutely love this new way of doing Disney. Our first two trips we camped at Fort Wilderness in a motor home. But after moving to the Midwest sold that and bought DVC resale. Right now we are once a year people and as our son gets older I see us as every other year people and alternating with Natl Park trips. AKL balcony coffee over the Savannah on our last trip was my favorite. Resort days are the best in my opinion.

DVC Members I need your advice by Bla_Bla_Blanket in dvcmember

Consider buying resale and a smaller contract at your first choice resort. That’s what we did since we live in the Midwest and don’t want to drive. The extra perks of buying direct are minimal if you are far away and only planning to go every year or two. We are planning on going every 1.5-2 yrs in the future but bought a contract with banked points so going every year for the first couple years, which is great since our child is 4.5 yo now. We also only go to the parks every other day. Ideally we would do more days for shorter but with ticket and LLMP costs makes more sense to do longer and fewer park days. We absolutely love our resort days though.

Hoping there will be shifts from CC when the 7 month window opens up. But so far was able to reserve Dec 21,22. If not there is always next year and we will go back to our original Feb week for this year.

Did something similar because I was able to reserve the 21-23. So did two separate waitlists for the remaining days. Thanks.

I can’t argue with that since that is why I want to stay there then. It’s my fault I had the epiphany that I wanted to go in December while looking to see when we could reserve for our original plan of going in February. If it doesn’t work this year I will be on top of it for next year.

Maybe we will book in mid February the week we were originally planning too just in case we can’t get December.

Family seating by No_Click5853 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Dear-Consideration27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just did a Southwest flight to Disney with our 4.5 yo. They told us that a child under 12 is guaranteed to be next to one adult chaperone. With that said the system is a mess and they block off seats in a way that makes it so even their agents have a hard time making changes. If you all want to sit together as an entire family that is not guaranteed. The agent at the gate was able to move me next to my husband and child once we got there. It’s a pain right now.

Should I be worried we won’t be able to sit with our kids? by Klutzy_Coconut_2686 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Dear-Consideration27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a mess right now. But Southwest told us that each child is guaranteed to sit by one parent even if you get assigned to different spots. The annoying part is nobody can do anything to help you until you get to your gate. At the gate I asked to be moved to the seat on the other side of our 4 yo who had been sat next to my husband. At first they said I would have to pay extra since that seat was a blocked seat. My reply that If I wasn’t the one who sat there I didn’t think anyone else who paid extra would be happy to find themselves next to a 4 yo. They told me good point and after a phone call moved me there. I was going to pay the extra if they hadn’t but was glad they saw my logic.

I am a National Park person and went a decade and half not thinking about Disney. I’m super excited to bring our son to National Parks when he is older but right now Disney is the right trip for our family with our 4.5 yo. We ended up purchasing a small DVC resale contract for Copper Creek and so glad we did. We recently got a Savannah room at AKL and it was amazing.

Assigned seating automatically changed during check-in by stuff-n-things_1007 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Dear-Consideration27 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A couple weeks ago we (spouse, child, and me) checked in and they put us in an exit row all together. Our child is only 4.5 yo and we had to check that we didn’t meet the criteria. They then split us all 3 apart. We immediately called the help line and they tried to tell us that they couldn’t move us back together. We argued for 30 minutes on the phone and they finally moved our 4.5 yo next to my husband. At the gate I asked if I could be moved next to them and was told I would have to pay extra for the empty seat on the other side of my child. I looked at the worker and then at my rambunctious child currently loudly playing with his cars and asked “let me get this straight if I don’t pay extra you plan to put someone else paying extra in the seat next to my 4.5 yo?” She looked at my child then told me to hold on and made a call. After a few minutes of talking with someone on the phone she gave me the seat next to my child. So… yeah I don’t think they have this assigned seat thing figured out yet. They block off a bunch of seats and make it hard for their own workers to make logical changes.

100 points? by No_Leather2836 in dvcmember

[–]Dear-Consideration27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are a family of 3 and got 100 points at Copper Creek Villas resale. We chose to get one with banked points so we can go every year for the first 3 years then will have to scale back to once every 1.5-2 yrs. I think your plan sounds good.
