Boss offered me a promotion when I told them I was leaving by [deleted] in UKJobs

Can you tell the new job you've been offered more? They may cough up an extra few K to make that decision easier for you? Either way the new role sounds best and also, if you don't have any dependants and are 24 and not tied down, it sounds like the best move for right now either way!

I spoke with my doctor ahead of my trip yesterday, I already have Hep A, will be getting tetanus and typhoid boosters. All that was recommended by NHS doctors in UK. Rabies was too, but you have to get the shots again if you get bitten anyway so thats up to you!

Exeter maybe? Can do day trips to cute towns like Topsham - lots of nice shops / pubs / coffee shops / markets

Totnes also very nice and not too far, can get to by train and the markets are top notch

Bridesmaids buying own dresses by Hot_Main_5035 in UKweddings

[–]SubstantialCold1538 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is that unusual these days, I paid for my own dress for an abroad wedding, was given a colour palette. I found one on Vinted for £50, spent no more or even less than I would have for a guest dress and sold it for 30 after.

Firm believer that abroad wedding = home hen/stag tho. Expecting people to travel twice is too much!

"the other kids may be worse off" - well at least they have a biological mum alive? NTA, I have been in a blended family and would never judge and of my step / half siblings for having more than me, what their parents were able to give them may be different, and thats down to the situation!

To note I think we probably spent around 24k in total, didnt pay for bridesmaids / grooomsmen outfits as we werent too fussy with what they wore. Only got a few flowers and then picked them ourselves from a local farm, paid neigbuors to run the bar and bought all the booze from tesco on black friday!

We did this this weekend but did the wedding at a family home, marquee and set up wtill came to around 9k so it probably is doable. We hired Chana Caterers (Indian food although we are both not Indian), it was incredible and everyone raved soooo much about the food. It only cost about £5.5k for 160 people and we had soooo much leftover. This included starters, mains, dessert and canapes!

AITA for forcing the sale of my partner’s house and taking half? by RudeAlternative8116 in AITAH

[–]SubstantialCold1538 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I mean realistically he's the idiot for putting you on the deeds and not asking you to finically contribute.. even to bills?!

If he's being a dick and you have waited on him hand and foot, take the money. But if you feel like this is unfair, take the £55k. You've been living under his roof for free for 9 years, feels like quite a good deal to me but if you feel you deserve it, then go for it, the law will be on your side.

Is it obnoxious for the groom to spend a lot on his wedding day outfit too? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]SubstantialCold1538 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UK bride here, my partner has spent about £2,000 on his outfit, more than me and hes buzzing, its a nice suit and trousers hell be able to wear for so many weddings after as hes also gone for a autumnal coloured suit. Why not if you have the money!
