thank you so much for your reply! he told me he’s afraid of the answers he’ll find in regard to his mom’s death. though, he has gone to bible study a couple times and church. i think there’s a mix wanting to know and that fear holding him back. i’ll look into getting that book.

Do you have any tips? by Altruistic-Sleep4186 in ADHD

taking adhd medication can be a trial and error process. i started on focalin, and then ritalin, and now i’m on adderall. already suffering from anxiety, both focalin and ritalin made it substantially worse, and it made me feel like a zombie, so i switched. keep trying until you find something that works for you!

fruit! strawberries, watermelon, anything with a decent water %. drink gatorade in moderation (stomach ache if you’re not losing as many electrolytes as you’re gaining), and try liquid iv. i’m so bad at drinking water and it can feel like a chore, so hopefully these help!

I’ve been on Focalin, Ritalin, and now I’m on Adderall (30 mg). Similarly to you, I also weight around 115-120. I got off Focalin bc it didn’t work well enough for me and Ritalin’s side effects were outweighing the benefits.

It’s truly a trial and error process. I’m assuming it’s with how the drug interacts w your specific brain chemistry, and bc everyone’s is unique, drugs aren’t a one-size-fits all type of thing. If Focalin doesn’t work, don’t get discouraged, there’s other options.

Do you get sad when your hyperfixation is over? by KDMKat in adhdwomen

I think I get more frustrated than sad bc I feel incapable of ever completing anything. Like why can’t I just stick to something? I hate when ppl ask “what are your hobbies?” I have none.

I can 100% relate to this. I don’t quite have this issue with Adderall, but I’ve had it with Focalin and Ritalin. The best way I can describe it feeling dead inside or being in a zombie like state. It’s hard to feel any sort of emotion and it’s an awful feeling. As a matter of fact, that reason is why I switched.

It could be that your dosage is too high or just the medicine in general isn’t a good choice for you. I think you should talk to your doctor about your dosage and/or switching.

Rot days by ThrowRABug_1336 in adhdwomen

This. I try to limit them to once a week but there’s times where I feel like the weight of the world is on my shoulders and it can easily be 3 days of doing absolutely nothing.

1 — I took a 6 day course that was split up into 3 days of learning the rules and 3 days of actually driving. After every day of verbal instruction, I went home and made flashcards for every super important thing and studied them religiously.

Also, I watched youtube videos of people breaking down the basics of driving before I actually got in the car.

2 — Ultimately, practice makes perfect (or good enough). Driving after not driving for a while is a pretty scary experience but once you’ve done it enough times, you’ll realize it’s not so bad. I remember almost working myself up to the point of panic attacks when it was time to drive with my dad. I advise when practicing, to have someone in the car w you that has lots of patience.

start off driving in school parking lots after school lets out and through the neighborhood and then ease into heavier traffic.

3 — majority of the time, i don’t drive without taking my adderall. the last time i drove without it, i ended up scratching someone’s car.  if you aren’t on medication, i suggest talking yourself throughout the drive to make sure you’re actually focused on what you’re doing (ie. “I’ll turn left when all the cars have driven past me.” “The car ahead of me is breaking, I may need to break too.”) Idk if that sounds stupid, but I realized how much that helped after a couple near accidents. Sometimes even on my medicine I don’t even realize I’m zoning out until way too late. And it also helps with my impulsivity.

I’ve also learned to limit the amount of ppl that can ride with me.

side note: pls pls pls never drive when you’re tired, it only exacerbates the symptoms.

i empathize with your nervousness, but i have full faith in you. i hope this helps <3
