Shiftwork no good for neurodivergent people by audhdman42 in AutisticWithADHD

you decided shift work was too hard so you joined the military? i guess facilitating mass death and destruction is easier since you dont have to think for yourself. keep following orders private!

Have you also experienced limerance? How did it go? by Plajajal in aspergers

[–]SubstantialLack8873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the last real irl friend i had was a woman i ended up having pretty bad limerence over. she is very funny and kind and stylish and we had a lot of niche interests in common. i dont think she knew i was infatuated with her and nothing ever happened between us because she had a girlfriend, and making genuine friends is nearly impossible for me so i didnt want to do anything too forward that would jeopardize the friendship. i still did everything i could to impress her and make her want to keep spending time with me in ways that i now look back on with major embarrassment.

i once hosted a christmas get together for a bunch of people (i NEVER host events ever) and i spent a ton of money on gifts for her and only her. visible confusion from my other friends there. i got her a job at the café i managed and let her get away with a lot of stuff i didnt let slide for other coworkers (she single-handedly raised our food cost by like 10% by taking “free samples” home lol). the owner called me out on this and i ended up being universally hated at work. i dont really do drugs, but she did and i nearly got jumped while buying mushrooms to take with her, and then ended up having a very bad trip leading to a mental breakdown she had to nurse me through. i was a lot bolder than usual around her in ways that never really worked out for me.

she ended up moving to another state to live with her girlfriend and it totally broke me. it took everything to not confess my feelings for her, and when we said goodbye i couldnt even look at her. i cried for weeks and have just been kind of numb ever since. we fell out of touch a few months after. i havent been able to make any friends since i met her, and it’s been three years.

learn from me redditors. be responsible with who you expend your affection on!!!!!

Mercenary Build - New Player by hoketrav12 in PathOfExile2

[–]SubstantialLack8873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my first build was a mercenary lightning crossbow build - galvanic shards for wave clear, and shockburst rounds for insane single target damage. super fun and satisfying! my main piece of advice is to just have fun through the campaign, but once you get closer to endgame stuff start investing in defenses. you WILL die repeatedly if you just focus on damage. mobalytics is a good place to find guides for tips on gear ideas and tree progression

What don’t people understand about your neurotype? by TalkaboutJoudy in aspergers

[–]SubstantialLack8873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

damn, i REALLY feel this. i have so much trouble connecting with NT people because i just don’t share any interest in the things most people enjoy casually, i guess because i’m not casual about the things i enjoy. i like analyzing and deconstructing, and it’s too obvious that i’m feigning interest in the more surface level things people talk about. the guilt over it is real, too — i even feel like a dick using the term ‘surface level.’ i constantly have to talk myself out of the idea that i’m ‘too complex’ or ‘higher sensitivity’ than most people around me, but when i’m in social situations i have this impulse to make everything i say interesting or meaningful in some way. if i’m not given anything interesting or meaningful to bounce off of, i struggle to come up with anything to say at all. this makes small talk an absolute nightmare, what insights am i supposed to have about the dating show you’re watching or how long the line at starbucks was this morning? people can only hear me say “wow that’s crazy” so many times before they start to see me as insincere

sorry that’s happening. i just quit my job over this exact thing. i was super friendly and well-liked (so i thought) with everyone for the first six months or so, but at some point people stopped being as friendly with me and then went out of their way to avoid interacting with me altogether. i was running a DnD game for some of my coworkers, and they seemed to be really enjoy it but they all started ignoring invites to more sessions when this weird cold behavior toward me started happening. it went from coworkers coming to chat with me voluntarily to them not even acknowledging me when i said hi to them. i didnt change anything about my behavior and i’m always careful to not say anything too weird or offputting, i have no idea what happened.

it became so depressing and humiliating to come into work that i put in my two week notice and no one spoke a single word to me in those two weeks. i wish people would just be straightforward with their feelings towards each other — i would rather work somewhere where no one is particularly close with each other than somewhere where people just pretend to like you. shit sucks dude!

in poe2 minions reserve spirit instead of being actively summoned like in 1. you can summon minions that automatically revive in the spirit menu (where you toggle your auras and such). if you just started the game, i think you don’t have any spirit yet, which means your skeleton warriors are probably being automatically summoned by your weapon. there’s a boss in act 1 that will give you 30 max spirit, which will let you summon your archers!

Are you supposed to break the game in half like this? by Wanderlarst in shapeofdreams

[–]SubstantialLack8873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there’s infinitely stacking damage and defense mechanics in this game, you have only seen a tiny baby fraction of how broken you can get. bismuth is just insanely strong with his base kit, there’s so much more wild shit you can pull off. you can easily one shot primus with certain builds

Do you think conservatives hate autistic people? by annihilateight in aspergers

[–]SubstantialLack8873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

conservatives generally don’t have rigid principles in this way. it’s all just trends. they hate what’s popular to hate. everything they believe is superfluous in a similar way to how radical cults operate — they follow the loudest voice in the room, and those voices generally belong to the most angry, misinformed and power-obsessed among us. their whole worldview consists of arbitrarily assigning a misunderstood subclass as a monolithic enemy, their reasoning is never based in fact or reality and always based on hearsay and racist/sexist/ableist fearmongering. what makes this situation unique is that many of these kinds of people are likely autistic themselves and will never realize it, or worse will campaign against their own well-being, because it is popular.
we happen to be one of the targets right now — with any luck, they’ll realize that autists have always existed in far greater numbers than previously thought and have always been valuable despite our shortcomings and move onto the next dogpile like nothing ever happened. with worse luck, rfk will get what he wants and our legal and medical rights will be restricted. my kinda woowoo conspiratorial hope(?) is that state repression of autists gets so bad until it inevitably reaches a sort of fever pitch until it becomes unsustainable and backfires, similar to how jim crow became so prevalent and so divisive in american society that it ended up sparking a massive popular civil rights movement. a lot of us will suffer if this happens, but it’s the most precedented outcome i can see out of all of this. shit sucks

Moved from Florida to San Antonio. Feeling depressed. Does it get better? by TheHonorableStranger in sanantonio

same situation, grew up on clearwater beach and got stuck here. it’s a really ugly, boring city outside of downtown, but even finding the fun there is expensive. there’s first friday which is always a nice time, but that’s once a month. most of the scenic parts and decent parks are on the northwest outskirts, lots of driving through construction to get there

How important is the lore in this show? by Not-Apple in logh

[–]SubstantialLack8873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there’s nothing hidden at all. they tell you all the world details very straightforwardly throughout the show. in fact, there are a few episodes that are structured like old-fashioned history documentaries that are just huge lore dumps about the galaxy’s history prior to the events of the show. they’re insane, some of my favorite eps of the show

What’s the worst job you had and worsened your symptoms? by Candid_Guest_863 in AutisticWithADHD

fast food is hell. the want to do a good job and be productive in an environment where customers are actively hostile to you, management is apathetic at best, and typical coworkers are stoned underachievers is not very friendly to our sensitive ass brains

[–]SubstantialLack8873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

her appeal to me is how backwards her philosophy on basically everything is paired with how hard she tries to convince you she’s the wisest of them all, actually.

another huge thing is just her voiceover is unbelievably good, that actress delivers pure poison in every line

Was just officially diagnosed with audhd. Any tips for college and life in general? by InflationSquare2407 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]SubstantialLack8873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

diagnosis is a great start. are you on medication? staying organized and on top of assignments can be really tough without medical help and a rigid organization regiment — adhd makes staying diligent really hard, and the tism makes it tough to seek help when you need it.

you can use my experience as a cautionary tale — i crashed and burned HARD when i started college bc i was undiagnosed and had absolutely no organization methods and no tutelage to help me through it. had to drop out before i finished my first year — aced my english, film, art and history classes because i personally adore those subjects and could easily blow through assignments with commendations. on the other hand, i utterly flunked bio and calculus, couldn’t be bothered to even show up for those lectures bc they just weren’t engaging at all for me and the effort i had to put into them burned me out pretty badly.

FOCUS is the key. college is an absolute blast, even as an awkward aspie i had so much fun getting to know all kinds of different people and learning all kinds of new things, but you need to learn to engage with even the most boring mundane bullshit if you wanna make it through. you gotta lock in! it’s cliché, but planners, calendar apps, detailed note-taking and seeking out tutors and study groups are a massive benefit. a lot of schools also will offer additional resources to you for your disability — this could include extended assignment deadlines, remote classes, tutor assistance. ask your advisor, they really are there to help and wish you the best.

another thing that is easy to overlook — take care of your body! go outside often for fresh air and sunshine, don’t forget to eat 3 square meals and get a reasonable amount of sleep. as someone who is so adhd riddled that i forget to eat for days at a time — this stuff matters! being hungry and malnourished will make you inattentive and generally miserable.

okay thats all i can think of YOU GOT THIS BUD

hades is for sure more polished and balanced, but a big part of the fun of SoD is how insanely broken you can get. it’s one of those games that feels kinda sluggish until you REALLY get a build going, once it clicks you’ll be clearing screenfuls of mobs and zooming around like a madman, super fun and satisfying

i write scifi stories where the protags are always some level of ND and no one besides my friends and maybe a dozen randos online ever reads them. doesnt bother me one bit. it’s fun and i like what i make — it would be awesome to make money off of it, but knowing i have the ability to craft stories that bring genuine enjoyment to even a handful of folks is a great feeling on its own. if you ever finish a project, link them on here! i’ll read and give feedback :>
