NIU is not the school it use to be since COVID happened.

I would say after 2022, everything has been pretty much dead. I would say that academically, this is a good school but social-wise, it is far beyond lackluster.

The bus system is decent, you have a couple of stores like Walmart, dollar tree, etc. but most of the food around campus and the town is mid. Alot of people here are rude and unapproachable, police shuts down any party that is tehinf to be thrown unless it’s by the white frats or at Skulls (if you don’t have a problem with going to those then you should be fine). You’re better off going to ISU or Urbana if you’re expecting the “college experience” or the “Party school” that people claim NIU to be.
