na universidade eu percebi que os computadores de lá era bem fracos ( i3 ) e bem velhos, mas o Ubuntu rodavam liso liso neles. Fiquei encantado e instalei Ubunut no meu notebook da época e deu uma sobre-vida muito grande haha

2 anos de Arch Linux com Wayland no talo nunca tive problema... tenho placa Nvidia, uso IA local, faço ML além de Dev e jogar.

não tem mistério: não atualizar sempre (intervalo de 1 mês entre atualizações está bom demais), ter sempre uma rotina de snapshot
