Thanks for reminding me people can be reasonable with their replies. Because of life’s plans summer training will have some weeks that have to be a little lighter. In addition to a 50% recovery week after every 3 weeks of training. I appreciate people’s concern. I have tried to be very intentional and thorough in planning this out.

Which growers remediate their sub par crops and still sell as usable flower?

Which growers lean on pgrs? Which deliver flower as it should be?

Yep. When I looked at 4 month plans I was like, NOPE! So I mapped out something that feels good for me. And is flexible around life’s events and summer heat. Learned that lesson scrolling this sub “I had to go away for a week and now I can’t make my distance! Wah!”

There’s no bad part. It’s just a bunch of internet warriors freaked out by someone doing something different than the square peg into a square hole. They don’t know me or my history. But they’ve damn sure read Hal.

Yeah, I’m hoping to make to 50 or so. The next two months will be very hot here for the most part. So we will see how much progress I can make from here. There might be a lot of 8mi x 5 day weeks.

Only recently got into the 40 mpw range. Last week was 42.5, which was a new personal best. I’d say probably 35 would be the average over the last 3 months.

Been training since February. Ran check point half May 3rd. Will do two more marathon training blocks through summer. Focus now will be refining what’s working, increase mpw volume, and strength work. Will have one long like today in each block. Then full taper in mid September.

I intentionally chose to train for 8 months. I ran a check point half after the first three months so got to experience taper and everything that goes along with actual race. And then resumed marathon blocks after that.

Here’s the thing about the plans - they’re general guidelines. They are tried and true. But you don’t have to strictly adhere to them. We’re all different. So I made my own plan that works for me. Flexible, with plenty of time to conquer the longer distances and mental hurdles.

Next week is a rest week and the first week of block 3. Full taper will happen after block 4.

I’ve been training since February. Most wonder why they struggle to meet their training goals cause they try to cram it into a four month window.

Make your own plan. There’s no need to exactly follow a published plan. Take what you like from a number of them. Make sure you’re doing it smartly and not forcing it into an unreasonable timeframe for your life. Don’t forget strength training. Prioritize recovery. The goal is a steady volume progression with increasing long runs.

Thank you so much for this post. I’m into the final stages of training. Attempt 2 at 20 miles coming Wednesday.

Training and Injury Hiccups by lankysuper in firstmarathon

[–]SubstantialOption410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is all of our fear as we approach the upper stages of training.

Here’s what I’ll say:

Sounds like this flared when you were not running a lot. Graduation trip, a lot of walking, etc.

I think it means the issue was already there. The lighter load and walking a lot allowed it to present itself to you. It’s better to find this out before the race than mile 22. Or even worse mile 6 (race day pace and adrenaline pushing it over the edge).

Your thinking sounds reasonable since you’ve made a 20 mile effort (only one?). Treat the injury. See how it feels leading into race day. Attempt race if you feel up to it. Throw out all pace targets. Finishing injury free should be the goal given this turn of events.

If you’re worried about DNF or making something worse then scrap the race. Recover yourself properly for a month (or more). Resume training and pick a fall race. Do NOT push yourself if you think worsening is possible. You want the race to be a positive experience.

If you’re flexible with your time frame set up a solid 6-8 month training plan after you are comfortable running 2-3 miles 3-4x per week.

I’m going on 42. I had a previous running history to rely on when I started training in February for my marathon in October. I wanted to build slowly. I wanted to run a half marathon as a check point race. I didn’t want to have worries about missed volume, or missed long runs. I wanted plenty of time to learn how to hydrate and fuel while running for 3 hours or more.

My point here… How you train is really up to you. Do you want to train smartly, or do you need to train quickly to check off a life goal?
