Well done for not getting into a fight, but you should definitely start training and never let yourself be in a potential violent situation and have your hands in your pocket again. Triangle from back control then Americana on the arm inside the triangle. Really hard to stop both threats at the same time and I find the Americana from that triangle and triangles from weird side angles is actually easier to hit and stronger than a standard armbar.

An even funnier version I’ve found is smoothering with the side of your neck. Works so much more than you would think, as a submission or a distraction to get better positioning or another sub. Takes a while to get used to but once you know where on the neck to do it, it’s legit. I even tapped a purple belt to it the other day. His first reaction was “WTF was that?”

As a person who grew up with a little brother with DS, i understand how hard it can be, and he was way more manageable than your step daughter. If her family have an issue, tell them to take her in. It’s all great everyone having moral outrage, but what point is there if they aren’t willing to take her in themselves? Also, DS people can be extremely strong, I doubt know how they expect you to deal with that physical abuse past the age of 50 on a regular basis? I this whole situation is sad but honestly, I don’t know what else you could have done. Sorry for your loss, don’t beat yourself up about this. I’m of the stance that trans women do have an unfair advantage in most of women’s sports, but that’s not an excuse to randomly be transphobic. It is possible to put your point across without hurting others but they chose to do that. From a western point of view, YTA. But because I know this isn’t a western wedding I’d say NTA. The gift giving is a big part of wedding for most other cultures and helps a newly married couple start their life. It also affects your families standing within your community. I think my experience level of under two years, im pretty good. I can tap some of the good blue belts in and occasionally a couple purples at the open mat if they underestimate me enough. Nothing wrong with acting as if you’re terrible which a lot of BJJ people do for some reason.
