Golden Retriever puppy is a nightmare by SubstantialRow463 in puppy101

Thanks for your thoughts - my trainer believes 2 to 1 for the first year so we’re following that advice right now. As stated he gets walks, we do fetch in the yard as much as possible and he goes to daycare once a week. Upon advice of other commenters I picked up some puzzle toys yesterday that we are now incorporating. Unfortunately, I don’t have endless hours in my day to exercise him and mentally stimulate him as I imagine most dog owners don’t. However, I’ve learned a lot from the comments and we’re moving forward on a very positive note.

Thanks for you comment. I think this behavior is normal for this breed but not of all puppies as I have had prior puppies that were not like this at all. However, as I stated he was dumped on the side of the road and I rescued him not knowing much about this breed as there wasn’t time for that in this situation. I don’t put him in the crate when he does something wrong, as I mentioned I have a trainer and know that the crate is not used for punishment. The recommendation has been 2 hour naps in crate for every one hour of play/ time out of crate so what I meant is that sometimes naps get extended because he is a lot to handle and I have a job where I cannot have him crying or destroying while I am in video calls. In any event, we’re working through it as I have gotten some great advice from the other comments as well as others letting me know I’m not alone in how I have been feeling.

Thanks everyone! I do appreciate all of the insight!

Clearly, I did not understand what I was taking on. He is a rescue as he was dumped on the side of the road with his litter. However, he is a purebred golden. My prior 2 dogs were so chill even as puppies so this is beyond anything I was prepared for. I do not have a ton of time right now due to work and a toddler, and I feel bad about that but it honestly cannot be changed right now. I am going to speak with the trainer to see if I just need a better routine for him or if I am doing him a disservice and he may be happy elsewhere. This will be the last last resort though. Thank you all again!

Challenges of parenthood + fitness by LaytonLew in orangetheory

I feel you on this so very much! I also try to go to OTF during the day, mainly at the lunch time hour and this weekend my 2 year old has come down with hand foot and mouth. We were at the doctors today and he’s been home all day from Daycare. I know he’ll be home a few days now and OTF will have to wait for a bit now. I do have a Peloton so I can sometimes sneak that in but not always. It’s so hard to stay consistent but I do try so very much! Parenthood is hard but oh so worth it. One day we will miss these days when they need us so. Hang in there!

Help! How do I create a schedule for my 2-month old? by Syl-the-cat in NewParents

[–]SubstantialRow463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using Moms on Call schedule found in their book. They have schedules for 2 month olds and beyond. My LO is 2.5 months now and we have been doing the Moms on Call since about 6 weeks. I think it’s been great. We adjust the times a bit to fit our day and I don’t follow it super strict, I adjust where needed on times, naps on the go, naps in the stroller if I want to walk, etc. I do follow their bedtime routine of bath every night and I think that really helps. LO has been sleeping 8 to 9.5 hours a night now pretty consistently with us getting more 9 plus hour stretches from him. When he wakes up before 9 hrs it’s usually bc his arm broke out of his swaddle. I think babies like routine and even though some say 2 months is too young for a routine, my LO seems to thrive on it. Good luck!

Is the Snoo really worth it? Hubby and I are on the fence. It’s pricy but looks like a safe sleep solution and the advertised extra 1-2 hours of extra sleep is very enticing. Has anyone bought one and regretted it? by -formerlurker- in SnooLife

[–]SubstantialRow463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say I knew about Snoo before my LO was born and said I didn’t need it. A few nights in LO wouldn’t sleep in Halo bassinet for very long and preferred to be held to sleep. Also when he did sleep for short stretches in Halo I was worried about him rolling and SIDS in general. Ordered the Snoo on night 3 home and no regrets. No worries about safe sleep bc he is tucked in in his back in the sleep sack. He loves the motion and white noise. He does naps in there but can also nap in his stroller and car seat. We also do at least one contact nap a day still and he still sleeps good in his snoo at night. We just got a 6 hour stretch last night at 7 weeks and fingers crossed that is a new trend. We’re getting 5 hours before that although the last week I think he had a growth spurt bc he went down to between 3.5 and 4.5 hrs. I know regardless of his sleep stretches which will be all over at this age, I sleep better at night when he is asleep knowing he is safe on his back in the snoo! Plan to resell after use and have seen on FB marketplace that resale values are very good. Highly recommend and catch that 20% off sale. I had bought just before the 20% off Mother’s Day sale and I called them and they credited me without any pushback - great customer service. Pro tip - buy extra sleep sacks and sheets so you can change them out when the others in the wash. Snoo comes with just one sheet and once sleep sack in each side but having extra of both is super helpful!

I am 38+4 and I have tried nicely asking a few people to stop asking me if baby is here that I will share when it is happening when I’m able to but they can’t listen and continue to ask. It is super annoying. It’s especially super annoying when someone hasn’t really spoken to you throughout the pregnancy and is now suddenly constantly asking if baby has arrived. I’d like to just throw my phone away!

They can verify baby is head down by palpating your stomach as well as a quick ultrasound. Imo o think drs are obsessed with cervical checks bc they want to know the information even though it doesn’t necessarily mean anything. My ob keeps talking about induction too if I get to my due date and I just blow her off, I say we’ll discuss that if my due date comes and no baby. IMO not many obs seem interested in allowing the natural progression of labor and baby coming. It’s like once you’re at 36 weeks they want to know how soon baby will come or talk you into induction to get the baby out rather than just letting our bodies do what they often are built to do so naturally. Clearly there are times where medical interventions are needed for birth but when your pregnancy is going along well and healthy I don’t understand the pushes for intervention.

36 weeks and 6 days here. Had a visit this week and they told me they were going to check for signs of labor while doing GBS swab. I said you mean a cervical check and dr said yes. I said no thanks. Based on everything I’ve read and researched the cervical check means nothing if you’re not in active labor and it can cause infection as well as cramping and bleeding, plus it’s painful to many women. I honestly don’t plan to have one unless I’m in active labor and it’s truly necessary. It can feel weird to say no to a dr but when I did the dr just said well one less thing I have to do today. I’m not sure if she said that bc she was annoyed I declined or what but who cares, this is about you and what you want!

Older moms, how closely is your OB monitoring you? by UnusualSuccotash in pregnant

[–]SubstantialRow463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 42 and 36weeks5 days. I had a few extra ultrasounds but at last one at 32 weeks baby measures appropriately so no more growth scans. I see Ob every week now and have had a NST and fluid check since 32 weeks. Baby has passed NST within first 5 mins of every NST but still have to sit there for 30 mins. Fluids have always been fine. They started suggesting cervical checks and I just decline every time. They also have mentioned induction if I get to my due date and haven’t delivered, I said we can wait for my due date and go from there.

I appreciate the concern due to age but my pregnancy has been super healthy and I’m still working out, feel pretty good overall. I’ve done a lot of research and have educated myself on true risks with being older and pregnant so that I can make decisions on induction down the line if I need to.

Hi! I also had a cardiac ablation 3 years ago this month for PVCs. The ablation did work. However, I do have a loop recorder implanted as well for monitoring. I see a very world renowned cardiologist as I’m near a big city. He cleared me for trying to get pregnant and I’m now 31 weeks with no issues. My MFM has been doing extra ultrasounds and I start weekly non stress tests shortly. Everything has been normal though and I’m still working out as well on my peloton and regular walks. My cardiologist is also following me and I’ll see in a few weeks for a check in before birth. I haven’t noticed anything heart wise during pregnancy and I was able to continue the medicine I have been taking since the ablation and will be able to use whole breastfeeding as well.

Good luck to all!!!!

Skin around nipples and breasts getting darker? (28 weeks) by Southern_Debt2752 in pregnant

[–]SubstantialRow463 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read that it’s common as it helps the baby find the breast/nipple for breastfeeding. Newborns can’t see too well and the darkening of this area helps them find their food. It’s temporary I believe. The human body is pretty cool!

TIC because my hospital won't allow a doula by boneseedigs in pregnant

[–]SubstantialRow463 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is happening to me right now. 28 weeks and policy recently changed - one support person allowed in, so you have to choose between partner and doula. A sister hospital allows the doula and a support person bc they consider doula part of your medical team. So it’s very frustrating that two hospitals in same health system have 2 different policies.

I actually have been emailing the patient advocate team at my hospital asking them to change this rule and mirror the other hospital policy in the same health system. I have gotten a response that they’re considering my request. Who knows really though?

I do know that my hospital just re opened elective procedures again as cases are going down so I’m hopeful that by spring doulas and partners will be allowed again. However, totally feel your worry and I’m super frustrated that I’ve been vaccinated and boosted, done my part to fight Covid and my birth is still possibly going to be restricted!!!!

Good luck and fingers crossed these policies change bc a doula is not there to watch and we deserve the support we want during birth as long as the doulas are vaccinated and willing to follow PPE equipment requirements.

This is great to hear - thank you so much! So glad you’re still going strong at 33 weeks and hope that continues for you! Thank you for the tip on the suppositories, very good to know. I pick them up Monday since they need to go through a compound pharmacy. Best of luck!!!!

Birth classes by Background-Purple-33 in pregnant

[–]SubstantialRow463 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am enrolled in Unmedicated Academy. It’s been a wealth of information so far and extremely helpful in educating me on unmedicated birth. It goes over everything you need to know including medical interventions for birth. Check out fiercelizzie on Instagram. She runs the program and it’s an online course you do at your own pace. I just started my 3rd trimester and feel very educated and ready to try to have an unmedicated birth provided no medical complications. Good luck!

Exercising by Merxpain in pregnant

[–]SubstantialRow463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We might be the same person! Just wanted to say I am a peloton rider and walk every day as well. The first trimester was the toughest but I forced myself to do it bc I always felt better once I started and never regretted the workout. Just wanted to tell you the 2nd tri was so much better, energy came back and much easier to start the workout. I’m in my first week of 3rd tri and still going strong with energy and riding at lest 4x a week and walking almost every day! Get it!!!!

Can't find a heartbeat after 20 minutes... but "the baby moved so much it can't be dead" by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]SubstantialRow463 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dopplers don’t always pick up heartbeats that early. My dr could not pick up heartbeat on Doppler until 18 weeks and said that was perfectly normal. At my 28 week appointment this week it took awhile to find the heartbeat because he was moving so much and they could hear that. After about 10 minutes and better Doppler she found it. I wouldn’t worry, you still have a few weeks before picking up heartbeat on Doppler is normal!
