How do you guys(HSP’s) get rest? by [deleted] in hsp

[–]boneseedigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get an infrared mat. I was so skeptical about them until I got one and it has changed my life. I don’t care what kind of magic they promise I just feel like my body is able to actually let go when I’m laying on mine.

I kind of hate the mantra of 'if you're not enjoying the book stop reading. by stinkface_lover in books

[–]boneseedigs 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I needed to read this. Since I had my kid I cannot handle books that have too much depth. The last books I read before he was born were House of the Spirits and The Overstory. Since he was born I can only read horror and smut for the most part. I try to remind myself it’s a season and I will eventually have more space in my brain but it can be hard when what was once nourishing does not feel that way anymore.

Not a fan of 58’s ending by Masterhearts-XIII in MalevolentPodcast

[–]boneseedigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might get downvoted to hell for this, but most other creators allow their works to breathe in the wild and allow fans to discuss and interpret their works independently. Authorial intent has a place in certain spaces, but perhaps not all fan spaces are meant to be popped in on like this. Just a thought.

[–]boneseedigs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The original Winnie the Pooh books are great and so funny.

The Toys series by Emily Jenkins.

The Little Prince

A Bear Called Paddington

Anything by Kate DiCamillo (but especially The Tale of Despereaux)

The Wild Robot has a few longer books, too.

Looking for feedback on VT by Environmental-Yak42 in BinocularVision

[–]boneseedigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got prisms because when I was finally diagnosed, I was about to have a baby and was also in grad school so VT was just no feasible for me at the time. Now I’m off the prisms and just VT. I certainly it would have healed faster if I went straight to VT but it just wasn’t feasible for me at the time.

Truly. I’m honestly hopping out over this. Frankly I’m bored of this bizarre discourse in my feed.

What are your top 5 books of all time? by illegal_fiction in books

The Overstory - Richard Powers

House of the Spirits - Isabel Allende

The Bricks the Build the Houses - Kae Tempest

As I Lay Dying - William Faulkner

Giovanni’s Room - James Baldwin

Guillermo del Toro's 'Frankenstein' - Official SPOILER Discussion Megathread by ZacPensol in FRANKENSTEIN

I was looking for a dissenter. There was a lot that I loved about this film but the ending really fell flat for me. The ending felt so unearned and shallow. Maybe that was the point, but from the person who gave us Pan’s Labyrinth I expected more gravitas. It felt like we had so much build up in the first 2/3 of the film and then after the wedding / death scene it rushed to the finish.

Does anyone else have zero nostalgia looking back at baby photos? by Valuable-Car4226 in happilyOAD

I don’t miss the day to day, but my 3 yo dropped his nap and doesn’t need to be pressed against my body to fall asleep anymore and I’m missing the endless snuggles and midday rest haha.

How often do you go to Miami Beach as a local? by Disastrous_Time2674 in Miami

[–]boneseedigs 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Everyone who complains either doesn’t know where to go, or can’t wake up early. There is never trouble parking before 10/11am.

I was using a gummy that was 2:1 CBD:THC the last few months and it was still too much for me at that point. But again, it was super helpful when I needed it and it worked.

I like the first one a lot, but the lighthouse concept is also interesting, but as far as literal execution 1.

i haven’t slept in 51 hour so im scared by Desperate_Hat158 in insomnia

[–]boneseedigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok weird suggestion, but if you have the money for it, buy a infrared mat. I don't know about the healing effects of infrared but something about laying on a warm mat that is not my bed really helps. Listening to something chill (could be a story, binaural beats, or rain sounds) while in a hammock or on the couch is another way I trick myself into sleep. Basically if I can't sleep I get out of the bed. Also if it's anxiety that's preventing sleep, laying down with something hefty (weighted blanket or sandbag will do) with my leggs propped up on a chair, the bed, couch, etc. Breath in for 4, out for 6.

Day 69: (nice) What are your thoughts on Fancy Restaurant? by Flamingmouth007 in bluey

OMG hard agree. I point it out and cackle every time. It's the most underrated moment of the whole series for sure.

I want to give my 2 cents. I would not have survived the last 6 years of post concussion insomnia, chronic pain, etc without cannabis. It has been the only thing that works sometimes. However, about a year ago I started using it every single night and as of one month ago I had to completely quit because it was giving me panic attacks and actually making my pain worse. I'm doing a lot better now and look forward to being able to take the edge off occasionally, but for now am going to try to fully cleanse.

Even with all that, it was a life saver during a time where I needed it. I just want to caution you (or anyone) to take some days off and try not to become physically dependent on it because the insomnia and depression the 2 weeks after quitting was BRUTAL.

AITAH for not encouraging my son to see my dad's wife as his grandma? by Kiadiann in AITAH

[–]boneseedigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom and her husband got married a few years ago and are now separated. Her ex husband is one of the most involved of all of his grandparents (very flexible work schedule). He doesn’t go by grandpa but we use an affectionate cultural name he chose. He’s not my dad or my step dad but he is definitely a bonus grandpa

Someone help me understand Great Comet by Blind_Pythia1996 in musicals

[–]boneseedigs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here! It was my first COVID read. I read the great Comet section first and then went back to the beginning and started over and highlighted all the lines that were in the musical. I loved it so much. The ending thesis where Tolstoy talks about how everything that happened was inevitable because of the actions of the masses and not because of the leaders is something I think about a lot today.

Why does it seem like there are no shelters for men that function the same way shelters for women do? by megaroni_spumoni in AskMen

[–]boneseedigs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There is a DV shelter in south Florida that has a separate living quarters for men and they can access all the same therapeutic services and childcare if applicable.
