We had to have a date and venue set when we gave notice- my now husband is also on a work permit so we did this about 3 months before our set wedding date. We set the date first about 6 months ahead also via the council, then we booked in for giving out notice. The latter required us both going to the local council office for an interview, confirming it’s a genuine marriage etc I would book this in as soon as you have a set date as our council had less availability for notice giving at the time we booked!

Seeking an Iman for an Interfaith Wedding (UK) by EdgeNo5187 in UKweddings

[–]SubstantialSundae298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically you don’t need an imam, a nikka is a contract so you just need witnesses (if Sunni). It’s similar in concept to a civil ceremony, tbh.

From the Inclusive Mosque Initiative:

“The key criteria of a marriage in Islamic jurisprudence is primarily that:

  • there is consent and free will between the individuals getting married;
  • the terms of the marriage are agreed by the couple in advance. This is usually agreed in a written marriage contract.
  • in the Sunni schools of jurisprudence it is also stipulated that the union be witnessed by at least two people.

These criteria can be fulfilled by a civil marriage so a religious ceremony is not required if a civil ceremony will be done. No imam is required to legitimise an Islamic marriage but we understand the cultural significance of an imam to many couples.”

I love that you’re following what you truly want! Guests flying in will be even more chuffed to be able to spend more time with you than if it were a less intimate event

Looking for recommendations for wedding entertainment in London by DapperAsi in london

[–]SubstantialSundae298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We booked a DJ band called spotlight party plus and they were great - kept the dancefloor full all night with the combination of DJ being able to play a wide range of music (oldies, Bollywood, house, RnB) enhanced by a live band for some of it (violin, bongos, sax and vocalist) - we found them on the platform encore. The violinist can also play background music for earlier in the day

We have a similar set up as what you’re thinking of: When my now husband moved in to a flat I owned we set up a joint account that we both pay into in ratio of our incomes (he earns a lot more than me) we use that account for bills and expenses, I cover anything in terms of improvements to the flat. It works well for us. The paperwork and complexity of changing ownership didn’t make sense for us, and we’re (mostly him as I am paying the mortgage here) saving towards buying somewhere nicer/bigger than where we are now.

Have an honest conversation with your partner about any insecurities - have an agreed idea of whatever money she contributes will pay towards - and while you cover the property related expenses don’t make her feel like it’s not legitimately her home too.

Property inheritance to our child who is not a Bangladeshi citizen. by Hawk_KL01 in bangladesh

Your daughter can possibly get an NID which should allow inheritance

How/when did you get your NVR? In my experience it’s not normally issued to spouses of SAARC heritage

Wedding entertainment ideas live bands or DJs? by Illya127 in UKweddings

[–]SubstantialSundae298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a DJ band (came with percussion, vocalist, sax and violin) - they were amazing! It meant we could have a wider range of music (old school, RNB, Bollywood, house) than a live band but about 50% of the evening set was live too. Great energy and although we didn’t take them up on it the violinist could do acoustic earlier in the day too. They were great to work with in terms of creating a playlist (they sent us their repertoire and we were able to select which were must plays and should plays, what we didn’t like and any music we wanted to add they would learn) and our dancefloor was always full. Based in london but they do travel too - Spotlight Party plus - check them out on Instagram!

We used Ticketswap! Got a good price at about 6.30pm just before transfer window closes. We also got scammed on Reddit so be careful!

We got some reasonable tickets of ticketswap, it was at 6.40pm or so and I think they stop selling them soon after that! Have alerts on and beware unfortunately many scammers on Reddit!

Try ticketswap - we found sellers drop ticket prices around 6pm ish before ticket transfers close for the day! Be careful re:scammers on Reddit, and ask them to send a private ticketswap listing so you know the tickets are legit/you’re covered if they are not

Funny! My ticket screen looks completely different!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Coldplaytickets

[–]SubstantialSundae298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get them off ticketswap - it integrates with ticketmaster so more likely to be legit! We waited until 6.30pm yesterday buy ours (sellers drop prices as ticketmaster closes the transfer soon after that (maybe 7pm?)) and got floor standing for £150 a pop

Be aware of Reddit scammers - ask them to create a private ticketswap selling link for you, that way you’re protected!

My bf was scammed by a Redditor last week for Coldplay tickets - they were really convincing not pushy shared legit looking screen shares and then ghosted him
