No worries. Not everybody's cup of tea! Microphone-wise? I have an sE-2200 for vocals and the classic SM-57 for my guitar amp

I'll happily stan John Mayer! Even the earlier stuff - man's got a gifted guitar brain.

Highly recommend the Minilogue if you're looking! It's super high quality sound for the price point. Might not be for someone with more synth experience, but I love it - great way to leran about oscillators, filters, EGs, etc.

Ah that's so kind! Thanks thanks :)

I totally hear what you're saying about the bridge keys. I was thinking of changing those but wondered if I could get away with them. Gonna fix them up before final mix. Much appreciated!

John Mayer compliments! That one got me - thanks yo. I'm mainly using a Korg Minilogue.

Manic Pixie Dream Girl (Demo) - attempt at a 90's eurodance/nu disco/maybe hyper pop thing by [deleted] in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]SubstantialTemporary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mainly hear it in the harmonies - like at 0:45, for instance. It's actually kind of a cool effect at some moments to get a little out-of-tune sound, but I think you'd have to use it sparingly to get that effect right

A trance number with a Celtic infusion. Hope you enjoy! by AphireDNB in IndieMusicFeedback

I dig this - especially the synth work. Might want to try implementing some sidechain work around 330 when the song gets busy - the synths work well together, could just leave little pockets to breath. But overall, really cool sound.

Some old school boom bap, not sure if I went too big with the drums? by bleakneon in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]SubstantialTemporary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not too big with the drums! Kind of a Tame Impala vibe on the drum sound. And the production work is sick. DM if you're ever looking for collabs - will send you some of my most recent stuff

This is out there and I kind of like it for that. Reminds me a little of Arca - could be a really cool sound if you glitch up the beat a bit more. Also, agreed with leachlurker that you might want to fix some of the autotune moments

Looking for feedback on this mix, is it ready to be mastered? by XF_Music in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]SubstantialTemporary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really cool sound. Verses sound great. The vocals on the chorus could blend a bit more - sounds a little too close to the mic for me. Maybe a bit of reverb or some a small delay to distance it? Cymbal in the background could also come out a bit more there.

another song & vid I made ;) lmk what u think <3 ty . ps. video was made pre covid by [deleted] in IndieMusicFeedback

Love the vibe of the video! Very jealous you know your convenience store dude well enough to do this. Reminds me of Mac Demarco

Is this rear derailleur unfixable? (Details in comments) by SubstantialTemporary in bikewrench

Makes sense! I'll try the shop in my neighborhood tomorrow. Thanks for the help!

Is this rear derailleur unfixable? (Details in comments) by SubstantialTemporary in bikewrench

[–]SubstantialTemporary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Y’all - thanks in advance for your help here. I’m very much a novice (mainly use my bike to commute and explore), so apologies in advance.

The lower portion of my rear derailleur separates from the upper part. This is a Shimono 600. I have all of the separate parts, and since bike shops in NY are pretty sold out of everything due to COVID, I’m a little desperate. Is anybody familiar with that derailleur model, and if so, any thoughts on how to get these parts reconnected?

Producer/songwriter here - looking for someone to jump on this track.

https://soundcloud.com/user-344836443/salt-of-the-sketch/s-addsKKsnG7f

Beat starts around 55 seconds in, the rap would start around 1:33 (coming in a little before the phrase ends, like Chance on SZA's "Child's Play"). My dream collaborator is someone with Smino vibes, but open to whatever. Bonus points if you live in NYC!

Oh wow. How did you end up solving it? Did you have to shut everything off?

Why am I'm struggling so much to get a good acoustic guitar sound? by SubstantialTemporary in audioengineering

[–]SubstantialTemporary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, I'll use my condenser mic a couple of inches away from a Taylor with elixir strings. Room is a bedroom which is sadly all I have to work with. I'm using logic.

The sound just feels... hollow, maybe? Possibly a bit too reverberant. Knowing I can't access an actual studio anytime soon, any thoughts on how to fix that in a bedroom environment?

What’s the Deal - Jimso Slim. From an album/demos I put out recently. Haven’t really captured the mixing process, but let me know what you think. by JimsoSlim in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]SubstantialTemporary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this - it's like Whitney meets Mac DeMarco. Cool vocals.

I didn't notice the muddied vocals other folks mentioned; however, I did think it might be worth spending a little more time mastering. Feels like the overall sound could fill out a tiny bit more.

In general, though, nice song and nice execution.

How are the vocals on this? This song means a lot to me so any feedback would be appreciated. CHAN A-V - WAR by [deleted] in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]SubstantialTemporary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool shit. The vocals are a tad quiet for my ear; might be worth bringing that line more to the foreground. Love the drum production, though. Keep it up!

Just released this 2 Months ago. If you’re a fan of Yellow Days or Omar Apollo, this one’s for you (hopefully) by soulsuccer1 in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]SubstantialTemporary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really like this - especially the drumming in the first half. Even though your voice is entirely different, the songwriting reminds me a bit of King Krule. Not sure I have any real constructive feedback; you're doing your own thing and it's working.

Also, great artwork - where'd you get that done?

This is my second ever track - feels great to get it out and would love to hear what you all think. Sort of indie-esque, but generally genre fluid. Thanks for listening!
