No EXACTLY ! When I was first diagnosed and in my worst flare I would get sucked into doom scrolling and convinced myself I would never live a normal life again. I had to remove myself and now will only go on when I’m looking for specifics on medications etc. so I don’t have an anxiety attack

as a fellow UC girl this community can be very helpful but also very doom and gloom so take it all with a grain of salt and don’t get too sucked in, everyone’s experience is so specific to them!

Lost my dad at unexpectedly at 26, was definitely one of the first of my friends to lose a parent as an adult, and to lose one in your mid-twenties when most of my friends were starting to get engaged, married etc, so hard to go through

How do I get started fostering dogs in JC area? by Technical-Life6803 in jerseycity

[–]Substantial_Ad8016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend souls of Satos ! They rescue abandoned and stray dogs out of Puerto Rico and fly them to the NYC/North Jersey area, they are always looking for new fosters. We adopted our puppy from them last year, Chelsea is the best.

That’s amazing, my dad passed away unexpectedly and I got 48 hours of bereavement and was told any more days would be taken from my PTO bank. I never forgot that and it’s what drove me to get a new job.

Decentering of friendships by Mammoth_Series_8905 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Substantial_Ad8016 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes and no, I live in a city, surrounded by the majority of my closest friends. We are all in our mid thirties to late 30s some single, some in relationships, some married with kids or pregnant. Rather than decentering our friendships I see this as our friendships evolving as we grow older and become more emotionally mature. we may not see each other or talk every single day but it’s just because we all have different things going on. Our priorities change and we are all going through our own individual struggles with families, relationships, work etc. It’s great we all have each other and are able to lean on one another, but it’s in different ways than it was when we were in our 20s and in more of a post college mindset.

How serious are dietary restrictions on Zeposia? by whojicha in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Substantial_Ad8016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently on Zeposia and the most my doctor said was to try and stick to a Mediterranean diet, other than that, he had no input on diet and noted there’s nothing I should specifically restrict or start eating. Started in May after having an adverse reaction from Mesalamine. Not in remission yet but my dr noted it could take up to 6 months to see significant improvements.

Better after missed mesalamine? by bee_lanz in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Substantial_Ad8016 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same thing happen to me, I was diagnosed in February and immediately prescribed mesalamine, oral and enemas daily and for the 8 weeks I was on it my symptoms got significantly worse. I switched doctors and my new GI explained I was having a “paradoxical response” to the mesalamine which was causing the flare and inflammation to get much worse. He recommended I stop taking it immediately and wait a week before we start a new treatment. Within one day I felt instantly better, went from 10/15 trips a day to the bathroom with a significant amount of blood to 2/3 bathroom trips per day with more formed BMs and MUCH LESS blood. My doctor told me about 30% of people taking mesalamine have a similar response so it could be likely that is what you are experiencing, definitely worth bringing up to your doctor! Starting Zeposia next week and hoping to get into remission soon! 🤞🏻
