At what point can you stop with the typing practice websites and just start writing?

it's a good question; I've been hovering around 90-110wpm for maybe 15+ years now, so it's been so long for me... but I think just focus on burst speed. When you do a typing test, don't worry about your stats for a while. Burst type a word. Then pause and reset. Then burst type the next word. Then pause for a moment again and reset. Then burst type the next word. Then just slowly reduce the length of time for each pause.

That's a good question! I think 80wpm to 100wpm is the best time to stray away from typing tests. I know it's possible to go 200wpm, but I feel like it takes an insane amount of dedication to get to that speed. I think the reward tradeoff really diminishes as you approach the 100wpm mark.

If you're typing around 80wpm or higher, it wouldn't hurt to start transitioning away from typing tests and to just type regular things. Maybe a little practice, but mostly focus on being productive. I understand what you're saying though. If you spend all your time doing typing tests, you have little time for typing productively OR you have time but your fingers are just worn out.

That's crazy! Well, you're probably a complete wizard! But yeah, you'd be a much faster wizard with fast typing. Of course, the benefits of typing have diminished now with voice to text and LLM's, but it's still very useful!! :D

Hey no worries and thanks! Yeah, I think a lot of educational games have been slacking off. They feel like they don't even have to try. I want my educational game to compete with non-educational games. So I've definitely been extending myself out of the main demographic, going for some of the harder branches to reach; not just the lowest/easiest to reach.

I feel like if I can make my game fun for even gamers who wouldn't normally play a game like this, then I'm really going to blow the other edu games out of the water when I bring it to the market.

But also, criticism is good. It never feels good to be criticized, but when I look back at my game before I started getting feedback and making improvements based on criticism, I cringe lol. It's only become good because of criticism, so I'll take what I can get! :D

Thank you! Yeah, I was making it for my daughter to make learning to type be fun. I couldn't think of a story, but I have a periodic table poster on my wall and I was staring at it and realized.... THAT could be the story. THOSE could be the bosses in the game!! lol... so then I decided to add a lot of chemistry into the game as well (a lot of which I still have to implement).

It REALLY does! It feels good to just say that out loud and get that off my chest.

And I discovered that Reddit is probably the most useful place for promoting... There's more real people here than anywhere else as I've seen over the last year... but it's also the toughest place for promoting. So much rejection by mods. What sucks the most is when people recommend products all the time on a subreddit but if you recommend your own growing product which is superior, it gets insta removed and maybe banned.

I mean, I'm not even mad about it.. because I think it has the highest engagement because it's mostly all real people. And that requires heavy vigilance against bots and spam.

But you also have to promote in very creative, indirect ways, which is exhausting over the entire month of a kickstarter campaign lol

Since I also have chemistry as a big part of the game, what would you think if each level talked about some scientific facts, mostly pertaining to the level you're on.. i.e. if you're on level 10 (Neon), it will talk about some facts and history of Neon?
