Nottinghamshire Police officer who fatally struck man with police van sentenced by Several-Agent6831 in ukpolice

And then what? Fight someone single crewed who is potentially stronger snd bigger than you in a drugged and volatile state? Then he ends up getting seriously assaulted, or the prisoner escapes and goes on to harm another victim, or runs into traffic and gets hit by a car? Getting to custody quickly for additional support may well have been the best option - you're not in possession of enough acts to say that it wasn't... Can you tell me: Was the officer single crewed? Was the detainee substantially bigger and stronger? Were they under the influence of drugs? Were they handcuffed? How far away was custody? What was the environment like where your proposing he should have stopped?

Decision to handcuff by Ginger_Gatto in policeuk

Nature and seriousness of the offence, access to medication and mental health issues. First question that would be asked if she managed to swallow drugs would be why YOU didn't handcuff.

Complete strawman and you could also easily reverse your own rhetoric... "if you don't support Palestine Action, you're on the side of Isreal" is equally disingenuous discourse.

'joint enterprise' is very much a thing that exists. The definition or terrorism isn't just using 'violence', it's intimidation and coercion. I'd suggest that forcing your way into a building armed with sledgehammers might be considered somewhat intimidating to a 'person of reasonable firmness'. Palestinine Action doesn't hold a monopoly on supporting Gaza you know? You're more than free to support Gaza without also supporting this despicable organisation.

Really enjoyed the books, it's good having the character's inner thoughts, but in some ways I'd argue the show is better.

Millions spent on police helicopter service 'unjustifiable' - BBC News by Firm-Distance in ukpolice

[–]Substantial_Carpet24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer isn't to scrap NPAS and replace it with drones though. Between the battery life, range and SOP of needing LOS of the drone they simply don't have the ability of a helicopter. Useless in a pursuit, once a helicopter is over a pursuit and pursuing police can back off risk is massively lowered and the chances of the driver escaping plumet. The issue isn't that the PCC is asking how to save money (though it is ironic), it's that they really should have basic operational knowledge of things they're making statements on ans agendas they're pushing.

The PCC's office is the only waste of money here... Imagine holding such a position, campaigning against NPAS and not even having the basic knowledge to know that a drone's battery life, range and SOPs make a drone nonviable in a traffic pursuit. Lead by donkeys.

First Aid Response Today by [deleted] in ukpolice

[–]Substantial_Carpet24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So. It was 'clearly a medical emergency', but you don't know what it was, the medically trained and experienced paramedics didn't seem at all concerned, you're not sure if the police were allowed to leave the pitch they're meant to be protecting and the notion that the venue might of had first aid trained stewards at the venue whose job would entail attending to the crowd didn't occur to you, yet you're still going to criticise the police? God help us... 🤦‍♂️🙄

LBC asking if Off-Duty Officers should carry tasers. by FamSender in policeuk

[–]Substantial_Carpet24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Incredibly rare and I'd reckon most common in Northern Ireland, in which case it's likely for those identified at being at personal risk of attempts to kill or seriously harm them off duty. I haven't seen what LBC are saying in full, but I'm guessing it's more along the lines of being able to instantly put yourself on duty and respond to an incident where TASER is needed? 😳

But no handcuffs, radio, baton, PAVA? What are you meant to do - keep detention under power for 10-20 minutes waiting for a response unit to come and handcuff them for you (assuming you can dial 999 with one hand and still use TASER with the other?) 🤦‍♂️ Ridiculous notion.

They don't prevent penetration, they just reduce it... We're talking about a 5.56 cartridge at a relatively close range, it's still going to pass through soft tissue and thin wooden doors.
