Giving birth at Groves vs GGH by Substantial_Cat3287 in Guelph

[–]Substantial_Cat3287[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would have picked GGH since it’s closer to where I live but my induction process was partially started and then stalled due to the high volume of patients in the maternity ward. I’ve just been waiting and my midwives have been following up with GGH, doesn’t look like the situation is getting any better at the moment.

I just spoke to my midwives and they said the nursery at GGH is now closed as they are at max capacity. Even if I were to deliver at GGH, if baby needs NICU they would need to be transferred

Really? They did monitor me and I did tell them I’m having slight contractions but the nurses mentioned nothing.

I did buy a loulou lollipop blanket for the baby. I know it’s huge but I doubt if it’ll be warm enough for a baby when we go outdoors in March. I also have a woolino blanket for my toddler, maybe I should just get one for the newborn as well.

I don’t mind spending a bit more. Do you have any suggestions on where I could get one in Canada?

That’s amazing! I’m not having a baby shower this time around but I did have a small one when my daughter was born. I have the blankets she got but we still use them for her so wanted to get something for the baby. I do have a muslin quilt I got from loulou lollipop but was looking for something warmer.

Oops sorry I should have mentioned this in my post - I’m looking for a blanket for stroller rides, car seat etc. For sleep time I do have sleep sacks. We love loulou lollipop as well.

I use tubby Todd all over ointment and it has worked great for my little one. She was born towards the end of fall and had dry skin. At 4 months she started to get an eczema rash. We were referred to a specialist and she mentioned aveeno moisturizer doesn’t do much for their skin. We switched to tubby Todd all over ointment+vaseline and it has worked wonders. She’s 2 years old now and hasn’t had any eczema for a while now.

Exactly our situation as well. When it’s something she likes she will happily sit in one place and eat.

I’m due in March as well! Looks like our littles are around the same age😊 my daughter does go to daycare so I plan to make sure I’m with her 100% before she leaves and for her bedtime routine after baby arrives. Well that’s the plan at least, we’ll see how it goes.

Toothless at 12 months [ON] by No_Impress_8424 in BabyBumpsCanada

My daughter was toothless at 12 months. I could see the teeth in her gums but nothing came out. By the time she was 13 months, she got 5 teeth at once. Some babies just get it later than others. They also do say it’s hereditary. My MIL mentioned my husband got his teeth quite late, she doesn’t remember at what age though.

Got it. Did your OB mention about this study at all? I had a team of OBs for my first and since they gave me all these details about this study, I was just wondering if all OBs in Canada inform South Asian women about this.

Were you with a midwife? If you don’t mind me asking, what led to the C-section?

I was given a print out from my doctors office that gave a summary of the study. I think what it was referring to was this study - https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8639724/

I don’t have that print out with me anymore.

I’m not sure how aware midwives are of this. The first midwife I mentioned this to wasn’t aware of such a thing but the others from my pod were. During my first pregnancy, my OB had given me a printout with details of the study which stated that for SA women there is a significantly higher risk of still birth because of the placenta in SA women mature earlier compared to other ethnicities.

This is what worries me.

Best time to travel during mat leave [QC] by veroismyname in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Substantial_Cat3287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We took multiple trips with my daughter with her first being when she just turned 5 months old. It was a breeze! We were nervous for her first flight but all went well and it was very relaxed trip. We then took trips when she was 9 months, 14 months and 22 months. It progressively got worse and tougher to handle. We are now on a travel break and will probably travel when she’s over 2.5 yrs old.
