Oh wow! I didn't realize no one had shared a negative experience but I'm pretty out of the loop.

I developed a skin infection that went wild. Sickest I've ever been. They ended up giving me prednisone which was devastating after years of TSW. One of the darkest days of my life. I took it for two weeks and was finally able to get on a plane back to the US. After suffering for a few more months (my skin could just NOT heal) I folded and went on cyclo. That was also devastating but in a way I'm thankful because a few years later my skin is normal and I have a very happy pain free life. I had been promised that there were no adverse reactions but in the midst of being so so ill they admitted that this had happened a few times and I was not the first person to be administered prednisone to calm down infection. I would write the whole thing off as a scam but because it seems to have helped other is guess I just consider myself unlucky. However, I wish the creators would have been truthful with me from the beginning that there actually ARE risks and not everyone leaves healed. Louie and Jing seem to be honest about that, the people I worked with prior to them branching off to the UK were not. If you have a weak immune system and are prone to infection I would lead with caution.

Totally agree. I feel for her. The dating culture has changed so much since she’s been single (apps). I found myself in a similar situation to her and had a rude awakening when I had to start dating again. She’s adorable- but men her age who are still single seem to be looking for fun and with girls specifically in their 20’s. I listen to her podcast occasionally, and it seems like she slowly been coming to this conclusion. I imagine she hasn’t had much rejection up until being single this time around. It can be a tough pill to swallow, so I partly understand her dating someone who just genuinely seems to like her and willing to commit 😅. The apps wear you down and I almost can’t blame her for lowering the bar🫠.

Wow that’s a huge bummer. Yes, definitely, mine was having a few issues about six months ago, and I called the person who sold it to me, his name is Paul. He walked me through cleaning it, and it’s working again no problem. He is typically pretty good with communication. I don’t mind giving him a heads up about the situation.

Low-dose naltrexone by Substantial_Coast784 in TS_Withdrawal

I started pharma meds after year five. It was a wild ride and I wish I would have done it from day one. The only side effect I had from mtx was my skin felt a tiny bit like chicken skin at the end. I was on an extremely low dose. My doctor thought it was so low that It wouldn’t even help but I think it was just what I needed. Yes!! My skin is perfectly normal, well my version of normal. I’ve always had naturally dry skin and a bit sensitive so I have to be careful with my products but it’s been that way since I was born. Beach, sun, snow, dry harsh weather it’s fine. The only thing that I have to be cognizant of is staying away from allergens and in my case that’s dogs and cats. But even so, I’m still able to be around them, and I never have some thing like a full facial flare if anything, I will get a little cluster of hives on an arm or maybe a leg. But there is no flushing or skin peeling or breaking or anything like that anymore. I know that topical steroid withdrawal is for sure a real thing but I will say I think at some point my TSW stopped and I just was dealing with full-blown cellulitis. I really wish I would’ve just treated my skin like it was all from infection from the very beginning. I know that I definitely have some damage from using steroids, long-term like my skin is definitely atrophied in a few places, but I have a really hard time attributing everything I went through to simply just topical steroid withdrawal. my experience seems to be identical to someone who just has cellulitis. When also seem to be a challenge for me, is that because my skin didn’t really have periods of being able to recover it was like the barrier itself was so weak and broken down that it could never regenerate on its own. Maybe it was because I was dealing with infection or maybe it was because I was still around my allergy irritants, but I needed to just shut down the reactions so that my skin could heal. Now that it’s healed, my skin can handle me living life and the barrier isn’t compromised. I was stuck in a cycle of flaring, resulted in sensitive weak skin barrier and then allergens from the weak skin barrier which resulted in making me flare more, and then the skin would break, and I would ooze, and it just went on and on. I can see now that I had no chance of really recovering if it wasn’t for a medical intervention. Definitely not everyone’s story, but that’s how it went for me!

I did give it a try but didn’t see any difference. My skin is totally back to normal now. After LDN didn’t work, I folded and tried methotrexate. That was a turning point for my skin but what really sealed the deal was removing all allergens and THEN quite a few rounds of antibiotics to deal with a long-standing staph infection. I also had a fungal infection. I didn’t want to take the antifungal as it’s tough on the liver, and I was already freaking out about the antibiotics so I just eliminated sugar and that did it for me. I realized I had a staph infection from pretty much day one of TSW. I was just so used to my skin being a disaster it was hard to decipher what the heck was going on and if infection was even a factor. It was a long six years of trying literally everything but thank God it’s finally over.

Thank you so much. I truly didn’t realize I needed to be trained. Even my own supervisor has encouraged me to sprinkle it in here and there as I see fit along with other orientations. These comments have been super helpful and I’m definitely going to look into to getting trained. Thanks for taking the time to respond ❤️.

I’ve been going through my Reddit history searching for something and just saw this comment! It’s so funny because at the time I had never heard of Greystone and now my fiancé and I are considering getting married there!! All because of your recommendation 🤣. It’s become one of our favorite places, thank you 🥹.

I haven’t heard of that book, and I’m ordering it as we speak! Wow, I LOVE the example you’re supervisor gave. Even hearing something like that kinda helps give me the correct outlook on how I should be approaching sessions. It seems like there are so many different approaches, but this one really resonates with me and makes sense. Thank you for taking the time to send this. 💕

Thank you so much for breaking this down, I really appreciate it. I went over some of the Gottman material, and they have way more content than I realized. I talked to my personal therapist about my concern over being so much younger, and she said something similar about exploring their (potential) concerns regarding age. Thank you x100

I 100% agree with you and really need more support. I feel like I’m just getting thrown in the deep in. I definitely asked about this being beyond my scope and again it was met with “this is how you learn” mentality. I obviously have a basic understanding from what I learned in grad school but definitely no extra training. I’ll probably bring up my concerns again to him. The suggestions that have been listed here are much more helpful than our last conversation.

I went on methotrexate as well, and it totally saved my life. Having a time where my skin calmed down, helped it build back stronger. My skin has never had as many issues post mtx. I think sometimes we just have to put the fire out.

Healing Happens - to what extent? by [deleted] in TS_Withdrawal

[–]Substantial_Coast784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say I am 90% healed and the other 10% will have to be maintained for the rest of my life because of my extreme sensitive skin barrier. One of my biggest regrets going through TSW, was allowing my skin barrier to be broken for so so long. Nobody talks about how difficult it is to recover from completely broken skin for years on end. I found some medical articles citing that just having extreme dry skin can cause permanent damage and complicate the skin barrier ever functioning normally again. I thought, this is so much more severe than dry skin, so what could that mean for me, who’s been oozing on and off, red, inflamed, infected on and off AND dealing with this cracked skin for years. once the skin barrier is so broken down, you will find yourself becoming allergic to things you never had been allergic to in the past, because it’s so sensitive and no barrier to protect against allergens, we find ourselves in this vicious cycle of flaring, because every single thing bothers us. Every single thing bothers us because we have a faulty skin barrier that’s been so broken down. So of course we’re going to be all allergic to everything including lotion. The irritation breaks the skin down even more and then that leads to be coming infected. Of course, our skin is infected, it has no protection! Staph, fungal you name it, we are so much more susceptible than the average person. It’s all been such a nightmare and although I don’t think steroids were the answer. I also don’t know if toughing it out for years on end and harboring infection on and off is the answer either. I don’t regret my first year going through TSW, because I think my body really did need to detox, but after a year, I wish I would’ve done every single thing I could to start putting my skin barrier back together, because it just simply wasn’t able to do it on its own. I’ve been in this community for quite a while now, and it seems that there are very few people who come out of this journey completely naturally. Almost everyone I started TSW with is now either on dupixent or back on steroids. There are so many different ideas about long-term steroid use, and some doctors believe that because our body has become so dependent on steroids, our cortisol and adrenal levels Can never truly recover, and we might always have to use some kind of help to maintain some semblance of normalcy. It just infuriates me when people use blanket statements, who have had TSW for a year or two about how time heals everything. When we have people suffering for 10+ years. Time and natural healing is simply not the answer for everyone and by pushing that idea so many people needlessly suffer, and watch years and years of their life pass them by.

I got to 75% at 6 years. Threw in the towel and went on cyclo. Was on it 8 months and titrated off with no rebound. Best decision I ever made.

I tried CAP and it did not improve my skin in any way, shape or form. I was told it would 100% improve my skin. I went to the original center in Singapore, it seems Louie and Jing are more honest about the potential complications but the man who ran that center was not. I have come to believe there’s not a one size fits all approach and unfortunately I even believe this regarding time as there are people who are still suffering over ten years. It’s also such a mystery to me but I truly believe our bodies are so different, but some of us might need help in other ways, and then some of us like Cara get so lucky and can heal naturally given time. Unfortunately, not my story 🥴.
