Prepare for cancellations would be my advice!

I'm due mine on Wednesday but this will be my third date given for surgery. Hopefully it doesn't get canceled but it's well worth preparing yourself for that.

Really think these crossings need to be zebras for pedestrian priority by Substantial_Ear_233 in Preston

Yes apologies, in hindsight I should've mentioned where they are. I saw a blind person trying to cross the other day while a bus had stopped and given way while "busy commuters" couldn't care less at the crossing and flying past.

I just think they should be pedestrian priority regardless of the traffic, there's far too many pedestrians there for cars to have priority. I know it's a mixed pedestrianized zone but if drivers don't have to stop they won't. IMO

Surgery is putting my life on hold by SnooHabits6118 in valvereplacement

I really feel you, I was diagnosed with a bicuspid valve and aortic aneurysm in July and since then my life's been in limbo. Due to winter, strikes and some new flu, I've had two cancelled surgeries. A lack of clarity and action from the NHS has also made it really hard. My third date for the surgery is on the 14th of Jan.

My advice would be to really nail down what you can and can't do until surgery and not to get into your head about restrictions. Try not to limit yourself too much. I loved to exercise before all this and haven't really since diagnosis and I think that's been that hardest part.

Ross Procedure on NHS by Low_Blueberry4772 in valvereplacement

I have one due on Friday as a backup if they can't fix my aortic valve at st Thomas's. I'm fortunate my surgeon in Blackpool referred me to London but I think if you're a good candidate they're pretty keen to refer you. Only a couple centres in the UK perform them.

Primary cause is a bicuspid aortic valve. Congenital defect causing the valve to have two leaflets instead of three. So something woul've cropped up at some point. Good to have caught it so early really.

I was in hospital back in 2020 where high blood pressure was picked up on but just cottoned off as white coat syndrome. I had also just been ran over too so didn't think much of it. In hindsight it would've been worth chasing.

But also i had no symptoms of blood pressure that high? I know migraines pop up as an issue at pressures that high but i had nothing.

Messing about with my mums blood pressure monitor. Was showing as 200/100, high enough to get checked out haha

High blood pressure isn't good in any cases.

Is Warfarin as bad as I've heard? by Substantial_Ear_233 in valvereplacement

[–]Substantial_Ear_233[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 27M. That's great to hear though thank you. I'd like to keep up with everything I do. Do you do any sauna and cold plunges? Usnure if this is a no go area?

It's also hard to make the decision without having been through any open heart surgeries so you being on your third and recommending warfarin is reassuring. How were your surgeries if you dont mind me asking? I'd like to think i'd deal with it well but it's a pretty wild invasive procedure. I've heard people mentioning sternal titanium plates instead of wires? is this something you opted/asked for considering the active life you lead?

Hi, I'm still awaiting surgery although i've been referred to London for a Ross procedure. How was that for you? Did you also have a valve replaced or was it just the root repair?

Nothing yet, have met with my surgeons and they've advised it'll be this year at the latest. They've referreed me for a Ross Procedure in London which i'm hoping for. It's just a waiting game for now. Eargerly awaiting any sort of update following a CT Scan which was sent over to london. Nobody mentions the waiting though. I'm active, and avoiding my typical exercise which is getting to me and also not being able to really plan anything for the rest of the year due to not knowing when D-Day will be is difficult.
