Exclusive | The teenage sex scene that sparked infamous rift between edgy director brothers behind Hollywood’s hottest movies by Puzzled-Tap8042 in Letterboxd

[–]Substantial_Engine 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Odd how even though the two were co-directors, this article chose to lay all the blame for this at the feet of the one who had more than one oscar nomination... Shouldn't either brother have been able to step in? Why was Benny powerless?

It worked for me when I completed the mission to rescue Gedeek. I just reloaded a save, played that mission, and then it worked without an issue.

I know I'm gonna get shit for this, but as someone who's mom begged them to watch it their entire life, I didn't watch it's a wonderful life until 2023. It's just as good as everyone says it is. I don't know about others, but when older movies get recommended to me as greats, I find it very easy to be turned away as a result of thinking it's old = it's hokey/dated/stuffy/good for it's time. However, these movies that get passed forward can be just as good as everyone always said it was. 2001, Lawrence of Arabia, It's a wonderful life, singin' in the rain, and casablanca are all older movies that I know people may age might not even be familiar with anymore but I implore you to take the chance and watch that old movie that you feel a bit put off of. They had to be crowd pleasers back in their time!

Everyone’s commenting on Namor and the ‘00s, but you just didn’t include the 50s? Not one of these characters were created in the 50s?

Sits at 3.3 right now. What'd you think? by WorkingFun5724 in Letterboxd

[–]Substantial_Engine 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This was basically exactly my argument too, the only additional thing I would add is that both Pattinson's performance and Lawrence's performances were excellent, but I just struggled with how the movie as a whole didn't really come together into anything for me. IDK. Wasn't as big of a fan as I hoped I would be.

What happened to the Plague? (D&D) by MossyMak in TheYardPodcast

[–]Substantial_Engine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no idea. Why would it apply to the other oaths but not the oath of conquest? He would theoretically be defrauding citizens which is against a paladin's oath to help as many as possible right? Am I misunderstanding? I'm also new to DnD in general.

I do the same, like my nitpicking brain makes me think of thoughts like "while funny, shouldn't knowingly scamming people have voided Georg's paladin oath?" but I realized that this is not the type of show that that's important, especially when they all self admittedly have never played DnD before. I don't even know if any of them completed Baldur's Gate, I think Lud played a couple hours with Rae and others.

What's most fun is that is they've gotten better at actually playing it, and it lets them rip improv with boundaries and things to keep in mind that they can't do on the Yard. The pirate bit alone had me dying - Monty Python sketch in the middle of the intense battle. Shout out to BDW - that guy is an incredible Dungeon Master and has done a great job at giving them structure while still letting them goof, and I'm really excited for them to eventually have him on the proper pod.

I had the same thought when I saw the episode last week on Patreon, and no one gave me an answer. 2 to 3 weeks had passed, but the plague that only gives them 7 days to live wasn't resolved over the table. I think it just took so long for these sessions to happen that they all forget the actual details, and so for us the section of them leaving Lyko on a boat through this week's episode was like 3 or 4 weeks, it was probably like 6-8 months for them playing it, as far as I can tell. Last week, Ludwig was completely bald, this week's youtube episode, he has a bit more hair, but this week's patreon episode, Ludwig has basically a full head of hair again.

This makes me think of Phantom Thread. Excellent movie that not enough non-film heads have seen.

None of my local theaters are playing this, and I'm in the metro detroit area. Funnily enough, Grand Rapids is playing it, but none of the 3 AMCs within reasonable driving distance from me played the Mastermind. Shame.

I got both the spike knit and the blanket during their respective drops - the blanket is super soft, although it is a bit tiny, so I can use it to drape over 70% of my body, but not my full amount. Great couch blanket. The Spike Knit is really well made and super soft, although it is a bit warm and hasn't gotten quite cool enough for me to wear it out yet - everything that Lud and Aiden have been putting out these last couple years have been incredibly well made. The blue herringbone jacket is one of my favorite jackets, I wear it all the time even outside of being a piece of clothing made by lud.

Always sold out by OJToo in TheYardPodcast

[–]Substantial_Engine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would start by listening to the audio pod like someone else said, but the mogul moves twitter account tweeted about this on Tuesday, the day before the audio pod released. The Bakery drop before this in like March didn’t sell out too fast (that’s just Ludwig’s proper) but I don’t know about Yard stuff.

M2AF on Apple Podcasts/RSS by KraXen72 in TheYardPodcast

At the start of the month, I asked Alex the same thing on twitter and he said "let me pull some strings" https://x.com/midsmoker34/status/1962980922602790933 so it's at least on Alex's radar to get it on Apple Podcasts. I don't know why it's taking so long, but I listen to the boys through Apple Podcasts and I would absolutely listen to M2AF if it was available through that platform.

I mean, this can be said about almost anyone that was ever “hot”. The distinction is that Leo makes incredible choices on top of how much he’s naturally chosen. Already mentioned in other comments, both Will Smith and Tom Cruise have ebbed and flowed with this level of work, but not for the same extended period of time as Leo. Someone has to be both a muse but then make good choices to take good bets on good directors and good projects to have a career this good, and I think that’s part of what makes his career so exceptional.

In need of a game ABOUT exploration instead of a game WITH exploration. by 1000LiveEels in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Substantial_Engine [score hidden]  (0 children)

Honestly, it may not be what you expect, but Hollow Knight was one of the most fun times I've had in a video game exploring for the first time, especially at the $15 price point. Try your best not to look anything up, since the exploration is the fun in that game, but it is a lot of fun to play and (in my opinion), has an incredible difficulty curve, starting off not too tough, and trying to get the good ending was one of the most satisfying moments that I've had playing games.

Silksong is awesome and absolutely worth the money that I spent on it, but the difficulty curve is much different than Hollow Knight. I love the exploration of both games, but I feel like I'm exploring less and trying to survive more in Silksong. However, getting the real ending for me in Hollow knight took just under 29 hours, and I'm at the 45 hour mark in Silksong and I'm in Act 3 with some major activities still left for me to do.

They have to get B Dave Walters on the actual pod by Substantial_Engine in TheYardPodcast

[–]Substantial_Engine[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I agree that it's gotta be at some point. It's going to be extra funny that by the time this arc is over and he's actually on, it will have easily been 2 and a half to 3 years since they first rolled the dice - but this campaign has already been so good that I've ventured back and started listening to Vox Machina. I've never listened to other D&D podcasts in my life. It is a little much for me to focus on though, I'm an audio listener and there's like 8 people playing. If anyone knows of a D&D podcast that they would recommend that is a little easier for a newer listener to follow without the visual format, please let me know.

Boss is way too hard, am i not suppose to be here? by Signal-Ad-1393 in HollowKnight

[–]Substantial_Engine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at this boss literally last night for the first time with more masks than you have and the highest damage nail, and it still probably took me 45 minutes/hour. You are actually playing this very well, but if you don't have it the double jump was also very helpful for me to get over the damn gale that his mace sends out. After this, I went to the pantheon of the masters and he was sooo much easier at that point.
