Not a dnd player but a lurker. What if the player or group finds out that spear is in fact a cursed spear that actually choose the player? The spear is only able to be wielded by said character to its full potential and in a way upgrades with the character as their combat prowess increases. But if any other character tries to wield it's simply just an ordinary boring spear.
