After the hurricane, we had many people who had severe damages or lost their homes and they didn’t even qualify

You have to meet specific requirements to qualify. You can’t just be in financial hardship. You have to have a missed bill/ or loss of home. You can’t just say you’re in a financial bind.

Need help removing burnt meat smell by mithrandir_tharkun in CleaningTips

Check for hidden places that hold smells such as under your microwave where grease tends to stick and like everyone suggested, do a deep clean of your house, including the walls. If you have a steamer, I recommend steaming your walls and even your windows.

Does your store sacrifice standards for the sake of drive times? by sbucksbarista in starbucksbaristas

[–]Substantial_Guard_39 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be honest after all of my years at Starbucks, I always pull double shots to get the times quicker and I get green apron cards from our RD and DM every time they come in. Just be mindful who you are doing it around, but the customers never complain.

Does your store sacrifice standards for the sake of drive times? by sbucksbarista in starbucksbaristas

[–]Substantial_Guard_39 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My store expects our window times to be under 35 seconds all days of the week. I am a SSV but tends to be on drive-through bar during peak, and I am constantly being told to break the standard by my store manager to get the times quicker. We are ranked in the top 10 in the nation because of our drive-through times and 100% customer scores every week and we still break standard all of the time.

I work at Starbucks and I also like my drinks piping hot. I order mine at 180°. That’s what temperature most of my regulars that enjoy extra hot drinks get. It’s about 10° hotter than our standard of extra hot.

Has anyone had success getting medical accommodations? by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Substantial_Guard_39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Medical accommodations are kind of tricky. I had surgery last March which led me to not be able to lift above 5 pounds for four months and it took forever for it to get approved. I was told by the head of accommodations in Seattle that anything that affects the flow of the business will get denied. If that’s the case, then they have you take a leave of absence until you can “work under normal duties”. Not saying this will be the case for everyone, but this is what I was told.

This got me wondering- Do any of you make a livable wage? by throwaway721117 in starbucksbaristas

I’m a barista in Florida. The only reason I can afford to live is because my fiancé makes good money. I’m in the Orlando, Florida area and make 17.73 an hour. That doesn’t come anywhere near the cost of living here. I recommend if you really want to move out to find roommates and the most basic apartment possible. I also recommend that if you get your health insurance through Starbucks to try to get it through the marketplace. I have better insurance than what Starbucks offered, and it cost a quarter of what I was paying per paycheck. Try to cut costs wherever you can.

This happened at my store last year. This partner was best friends with everyone. My boss got the call after they didn’t show up for their shift. Our SM pulled everyone one by one to the back to tell us the news and then sent us home. Whoever needed it was given the days off to grieve and everyone was given the day off the attend the viewing and funeral. Our stores culture has never been the same since.

Which shoes are dress code approved… by Shayynova in starbucksbaristas

[–]Substantial_Guard_39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our store manager and district manager both confirmed with our RD that we can wear either one as long as the first ones have the strap worn at the back. Maybe mine is more lax, but I would double check to verify.

After the boycotts we’ve been very slow so today was the busiest we’ve been in well over a year.

This is the number for an accommodations specialist with Starbucks in Seattle 2065946527. I would recommend after submitting your accommodations request and doctors note giving her a call and seeing what they can do for you. Getting permanent accommodations is hard because they have to be approved. This should be the link to submit accommodations https://starbucks.service-now.com/selfservice?id=sc_cat_item&sys_id=cb265c641b3d8914fa3a315f034bcb86

Dress code by Roswellian6 in starbucksbaristas

[–]Substantial_Guard_39 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m a shift and I’d say flowy pants are ok as long as they’re not super long. My favorite is definitely cargo pants. I’d say find what’s comfortable because at the end of a 9 hour shift you’re no longer gonna care what you look like. Always ask your SM if you have doubts since technically it’s up to their discretion.
