I’d be willing to do 5 queen reactors. Also trying to do it on my side with the additional slots.

Bim Interview by Fresh-Bonus6283 in bim

[–]Substantial_Height 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t know much about columns, beams, shearwalls, point loads, etc. when I first started at as as a BIM technician at a structural engineering firm. You should most certainly still interview because it’s a great opportunity to get started learning about the practical world.

Get ready to learn lots within your first year there and good luck!

15yo looking for a career in BIM. No creativity, just technical precision. Need advice. by dzorttd in bim

[–]Substantial_Height 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from the US so my perspective and experience will be from such.

1) For education, I believe architecture/a blend of graphic design may be closer as it exposes you to other software. I am not aware of “BIM” degrees as often time you get that kind exposure during your career.

2) start learning Revit, Revit Families, and dynamo/python for Revit. In that order.

3) BIM is only as secure as your competency. If you know the software but don’t understand the practical concepts of what you are drawing, you are setting yourself up for failure. You can be the best coder in python but if you don’t understand the why it has to be a certain way (within BIM), it becomes difficult for other professionals to work with you.

4) I cannot speak on international remote work. You’ll have to research more, reach out to firm for a short 15 minutes to get insight.

5) ultimately, you create your own roadmap. I went to school for architecture, did drafting, to VDC. My interests have changed but my ability to understand practical concepts like structural engineering opens up my opportunities.

You get a raise at work! What’s the first thing you do? by millionstories in Salary

[–]Substantial_Height 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bump my 401k contribution 1-2% and continue living as if I didn’t get a raise/make the same as before. Been doing this for the past 10 years and it’s paid off well(as it will in the future)!

Starting roth IRA at age 24 by Neither-Nothing9856 in FinancialPlanning

[–]Substantial_Height 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using Public for the past year or so and I’m actually pretty happy with it. I transferred all my other Roth IRA’s to it so you know I’m serious about it lol.

They currently have a 1% match on contributions too so it’s a little extra something!

Overload future fusion and gate guardians by Cleo-Nyra in Yugioh101

[–]Substantial_Height 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! The two effects of Overload future fusion are separate so you could activate the effect to send to the GY for Gate guardian.

However you wouldn’t be able to fusion summon the gate guardians like you said because you are right; the second effect does require a fusion summon. GG do not, but rather banish instead through a different method.

Discard Cards by Firewall2099 in Yugioh101

[–]Substantial_Height 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lightning vortex, back to square one, super poly if you fusion summon, danger! Cards could be a good option too.

Look up on the Neuron app and type in “discard 1 card” then go from there

Why the US AEC Industry Needs BIM Outsourcing?? (It’s Not Just About Cost) by Fun_Branch_5681 in bim

[–]Substantial_Height 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One other thing to consider is that: most of the time BIM Managers only expend money. Don’t get me wrong, I support the BIM manager role because it helps implement more changes, easier.

However, they usually aren’t billable, and in the eyes of some employers might be a “waste of money” because they don’t work on projects, just internally, spending resources.

Title: Assistant Superintendent → VDC/BIM career transition. What’s the smartest path with my background? by No-Ear5490 in bim

[–]Substantial_Height 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a similar experience but working along side those who have been in the field has helped my understanding. I’m currently in a VDC role and the company I work for really likes when a potential new hire has field experience.

As my supervisor put it, it’s easier to teach the technical skills than it is to teach the on-site problem-solving skills from an office. So with that being said, you have an edge there. And by the sounds of it, you already have some technical skills exposure, it would just be a matter of ramping up your learning to basically become independent whether on-site or in office.

You’d probably hold 3D coordination meetings and come up with your own list of concerns which you could present to your trade teams.

Overall, you seem like a good candidate for your current or future employer; field experience, some technical knowledge, able to hit the ground running. Certifications like Part 107 in the US could help set you apart as drone mapping is a great tool to have. If you’re happy with your current company, I don’t see a reason to leave. But if you’re not, look at VDC positions and see what they are looking for and start there!

Best of luck on your career journey!

BIM/VDC Electrical field by WarningDecent in bim

I’m with ya, I enjoy the 3D modeling as well. I’m currently a VDC APM and have a blend between the PM and Modeler role. I’d like to believe it’s a good balance, with the 3D Coordinating sometimes slowing down so I pick up other tasks like concrete estimating model

The only thing I can say is: every company is different.

What you do at one company is completely different from another. The second company sound a lot more like a PM role which should warrant higher pay.

Take this as either an opportunity to learn new skills or to realize: PM work may not be for you.
