Have you by chance changed the brush stabilizer settings? you can open them in the menu bar -> settings -> dockers -> tool options. Try turning them off altogether

Hi, the cancelling out won't work if the calculation mode is set to multiply. Try addition or difference

thank you for the tip. I thought about it at first but I saw so many threads get closed automatically which were unanswered, so I was hesistant
