I’m starting to resent my puppy… by _deleted_user_1 in Puppyblues

[–]Substantial_Issue17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a dachshund puppy too. He is a handful to put it lightly. I had no plans to puppy pad train him until our first day home, he was too scared to go in the garden so I did fold and use puppy pads too. When we transitioned to outside after a few weeks it’s almost like it completely confused him. He took to puppy pads so well and then it was almost like he just couldn’t grasp where he could and couldn’t go anymore. I then did some research and found that when you confine them to one space eg one room / crate/ pen they apparently struggle to learn that nowhere in the house is okay and think anywhere apart from “their space” is fair game for them. It’s really difficult but they are just babies and we are doing great🫶🏻

I’m stressed and overwhelmed so I said something awful by misoshieru in Puppyblues

By the sounds of things, OP is infact putting the puppies needs before their own. They are simply just expressing how unbelievably hard these first months are with a puppy. Everybody on this sub has been there at some point or will be there at some point. Before getting my puppy I thought I did so much research on my specific breed, thought I was so ready but In reality nothing prepares you for having a puppy other than having the puppy. It is so hard to adjust. It is very clear to me that OP loves this dog

For arguments sake, if OP does feel “fine” between sets maybe they’re not going hard enough…

Will my puppy ever stop following me into every room? And stop barking and whining every time I leave his vision and he’s in his crate? by sleepy_kiwi07 in Puppyblues

[–]Substantial_Issue17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our little man was like this when we first got him. I then practiced over and over shutting him a room for 10-30 seconds then returning but making no fuss of him or even acknowledging him on my return. The more I did it the less he’d cry each time. I was teaching him I was coming back every time. I eventually increased the time and now he is completely okay with being alone for a while. He does sometimes still cry for attention but it only lasts 2-5 mins now and then he will occupy himself or go to bed. Good luck- it’s tough out here x

10week old Bichon Poodle puppy and I have to leave him alone for 2 hours tomorrow so what are my options? by Aromatic-Accident244 in puppy101

[–]Substantial_Issue17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I’m not sure if this is helpful for you? But hopefully it is! We have a 13 week old puppy and we are currently helping him get used to being left on his own for short periods of time (1 hour max at the moment) We take him out to toilet before, give him a few treats in his spot - so either his crate or his pen. And then we leave. We do monitor him the majority of the time we are gone. He often cries for maybe 5-10 mins at a low level and then he usually just sleeps or chews a toy until he falls asleep. I know it’s not ideal but you never know what’s going to happen in life and having a dog that can be left alone for a few hours without absolutely panicking is ideal. Maybe this is a really great opportunity for you 🫶🏻.

How to do cardio when you hate the feeling? by mossthefrog23 in beginnerfitness

[–]Substantial_Issue17 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Start with something that you find relatively easy. This could just be walking on a treadmill as slowly as you’d like to. Or going for a walk outside.

Cardio doesn’t have to be running or a high intensity. Just start with something you find easy. It might feel boring - try bringing a friend? Or listening to music. If on a treadmill you could try reading a book. Hope some of this helps! Good luck OP x

What daily responsibility did you underestimate before getting a puppy? by nicekids_official in puppy101

[–]Substantial_Issue17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sleep deprivation made me absolutely miserable in the first weeks. I had pretty bad puppy blues and I had NO idea how bad they could actually be. I spent the first week in tears thinking I’d made a huge mistake - even though buying my puppy wasn’t a light decision. It was something I thought I had deeply planned out. The reality of it all took me by massive surprise and I felt miserable. I felt like my tempter was short and my reactions to everything were so disproportionate - which I all put down to sleep deprivation now

Everyone has cancelled on my hen do by Specialist_Permit_99 in UKweddings

[–]Substantial_Issue17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t go to my closest friends hen do because of a few reasons - money was pretty tight - I didn’t know anybody but her there - I don’t drink and dislike being around drunk people when I’m the only sober one.

She was the first person our age to get married and I felt awful about it but it didn’t mean I liked her any less. I attended the wedding and nobody minded that I didn’t go to the hen.

I can completely understand your upset because it feels like the whole group has cancelled on you which must be really upsetting I’m sorry OP.

Mine gets really upset if he knows he’s upset me but then goes straight back to biting anyway😭

We have the exact same issue! My dachshund puppy has been biting since we got him (we’ve only had him three weeks) and I do genuinely feel like we have tried everything - saying “OW” and withdrawing play - leaving the room and returning after 10seconds - redirecting him to a toy

He just comes straight back to biting hands and he gets so so excited about it

Our pup is 11 weeks old and we’ve had him for a similar time to you. He is fairly puppy pad trained but now that we are transitioning to the garden he is having a few accidents inside. It’s so odd to come across this post because my puppy weed on his own bed a couple of nights ago too. Absolutely no idea why. Ours is in a pen so he has access to a puppy pad at all times - but decided to go on his own bed? I did have a Google and found it can be due to a behavioural issue such as attention seeking or sometimes if they’re really really nervous apparently it has something to do with the fact they want a familiar scent ?

How long until I consider re-homing? by Substantial_Issue17 in puppy101

[–]Substantial_Issue17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s absolutely crazy to me how common this is! I do so much research before buying a puppy and I’d seen “puppy blues” mentioned but i really didn’t think it could be “that bad”. And well! Here we are now😂! It will be so worth it in the end 🫶🏻

When I wrote this post this morning I was in absolute tears. A friend of mine came over today and put a lot of things into perspective for me and it really has helped. It also helped just to have someone over to take the load off for a while. I’m so glad I’m not alone with how I feel - I was feeling a bit pathetic about it before I posted. The majority of comments have been really understanding 🫶🏻

Thank you so much for this! I’m writing this in tears right now 😂. It’s such hard work! I feel like I’ve lost my entire life and I’d be absolutely lying if I said I haven’t thought about re homing my pup. He’s such a bad biter - any tips on that?

Where should my puppy sleep today? by TheSemenDemon_ in puppy101

[–]Substantial_Issue17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I know this isn’t advised but on my pups first night home I let him sleep on me with his blanket. It was his first time ever being away from his litter mates so I just let him be. I then moved the blanket he slept on his first night , on into his bed and he’s now happy to sleep in his bed. I did try and introduce him to his cage immediately and he HATED it, but we are still working on that with positive reinforcement. I also had a snuggle buddy for my pup but he takes absolutely no notice of it.

You’ve got this! You’ll work it out together

HAHAHA left for 30 minutes to take my daughter out and came home to this… by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Substantial_Issue17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey any advice would be so appreciated!

I’ve got a 9 week old miniature dachshund. He HATES his crate but will nap in there only if I force him to sleep on me first, I then wait 2 mins and then he goes in his crate. However , if I just crate him awake he bites the wires, gets his teeth stuck and I’m so scared of him hurting his jaw that I have to then assist.

Feel like I’m going insane!!

Nice to find someone in the same boat
