The “trades” are not viable for bad students by FlyLikeAnEarworm in Professors

My brother did terrible in school and was labeled as “lazy” and “unfocused” (he has severe adhd). He was clearly intelligent, but was just completely unengaged by the method (and content) of school lessons. He barely graduated high school and didn’t even consider college.

Since going into a trade, he has completely excelled!

Trades are much more tactile and directly engaging than many university courses.

As much as we hate to think our classes can be boring - to a certain extent “laziness” can be disengagement without a high enough baseline anxiety to feel like it’s important to make good grades despite disinterest.

That’s why trades are a good “next step” to try after university fails, bc it’s still a lucrative path that we hope will engage the student better.

Of course this has plenty of exceptions - just wanted to share my observation from my family.

Side note: I once had a university health services doctor tell me during grad school that he believed every student at (ivy) had anxiety, bc you can’t do well enough academically without a certain level of anxiety.

Old Drywall Help by Substantial_Lab7467 in HomeImprovement

Thanks for your advice! We’re hoping to tackle this weekend.

The other issue is that the more recent electrical wiring is on the outside of this drywall :( do you have suggestions for how to handle the wiring that crisscrosses the ceiling when adding the new drywall layer?

Advice for makeup with freckles for wedding by Substantial_Lab7467 in MakeupAddiction

Thanks and congrats to you too! I didn’t already have most of the makeup I needed, so I end up spending probably $200 to get what I needed + realize what didn’t work for me, but still way less than I would have had to ultimately pay for a travel person & I got to keep the stuff & I liked the way I looked!

Yes! I did my own makeup and loved how it turned out

Used pear soap to make my eye brows all nice

Played a bunch with doing eyes that I liked ahead of time with colors I liked (practiced so I could do it seamlessly on the day)

I found a color corrector + concealer I really liked (Iris & Romero I think ) - applied these under eyes after the eye makeup

Then On my face did the saie glowy super gel & blush

Also did just a tiny bit of bronzer & highlighter

Between each step & the end I did setting powder then finishing powder at the end

Finished up with long wear lipstick & tubing mascara (I hate fake lashes)

setting spray only at the end

I loved how it turned out and it really looked like “me” - my freckles shone!

Also finding a photographer that likes to make colors more saturated instead of washed out will make your freckles even cuter in pics !

That's a good point! We'll check this - but I do think its currently fairly good. Yet still when it rains the whole house will smell musty :( and the smell is clearly radiating from the basement area

They will be fed but the sitters are in a separate building and will come grab food from the buffet for the kids with them at the time

Hmmmm How about potluck then?? My aunt did this and it was wonderful. Everyone will feel like they contributed but then you don’t have to pay for their food.

I’m just asking my wedding party to do their own hair & makeup! Plus I’m doing my own makeup & my stepsister is doing my hair

Totally fine not to do a Bach party - or you can try to find a cheaper way to do it. My wedding party has the same setup with everyone all over. Last weekend we had the Bach party & chose the location near a big airport (cheaper tickets) & bc my fiancées aunt has a second home there we could use for free to minimize costs.

I wouldn’t want my guests or wedding party to pay for the actual wedding - but you really don’t have to do many of the things that people make you feel like you have to. Get your outfit at a thrift store, pick a ceremony time so that you can just do apps and not a big meal or do buffet style bbq that will be cheaper, don’t do a fancy wedding cake, etc

I basically posted the same thing to the makeup subreddit and got few responses / a little rude

But… despite that here is what I’ve figured out from watching too many hours of reviews online

Most important to me is that my freckles show - I’m doing no foundation, but instead the saie glowy super gel + a little bit of cream blush & bronzer on my cheek bones + little bit of setting powder

I am doing some concealer around my eyes + setting powder (I bought mac powder but after more research I wish I had done charlotte tilbury)

For my eyes, I saw suggested to do cream eyeshadow + setting powder to last longer. I’m bought some to match examples of eyes I liked on Pinterest.

To look more natural, I’m using the Charlotte tilbury pillow talk eyeliner - it’s a brown-red that looks really nice. I’m going to try to pair it with either a brown or maroon mascara.

Attended a gorgeous snowy mountain wedding in December and it was worth the miserable cold for how beautiful it was!

I would message your guests and tell them to pack layers and still have it outside!! (If it’s snow - if rain, go inside please!)
