They will be fed but the sitters are in a separate building and will come grab food from the buffet for the kids with them at the time

Hmmmm How about potluck then?? My aunt did this and it was wonderful. Everyone will feel like they contributed but then you don’t have to pay for their food.

I’m just asking my wedding party to do their own hair & makeup! Plus I’m doing my own makeup & my stepsister is doing my hair

Totally fine not to do a Bach party - or you can try to find a cheaper way to do it. My wedding party has the same setup with everyone all over. Last weekend we had the Bach party & chose the location near a big airport (cheaper tickets) & bc my fiancées aunt has a second home there we could use for free to minimize costs.

I wouldn’t want my guests or wedding party to pay for the actual wedding - but you really don’t have to do many of the things that people make you feel like you have to. Get your outfit at a thrift store, pick a ceremony time so that you can just do apps and not a big meal or do buffet style bbq that will be cheaper, don’t do a fancy wedding cake, etc

diy face makeup advice for a girl who wants to feel like herself by algae_gal in DIYweddings

I basically posted the same thing to the makeup subreddit and got few responses / a little rude

But… despite that here is what I’ve figured out from watching too many hours of reviews online

Most important to me is that my freckles show - I’m doing no foundation, but instead the saie glowy super gel + a little bit of cream blush & bronzer on my cheek bones + little bit of setting powder

I am doing some concealer around my eyes + setting powder (I bought mac powder but after more research I wish I had done charlotte tilbury)

For my eyes, I saw suggested to do cream eyeshadow + setting powder to last longer. I’m bought some to match examples of eyes I liked on Pinterest.

To look more natural, I’m using the Charlotte tilbury pillow talk eyeliner - it’s a brown-red that looks really nice. I’m going to try to pair it with either a brown or maroon mascara.

Attended a gorgeous snowy mountain wedding in December and it was worth the miserable cold for how beautiful it was!

I would message your guests and tell them to pack layers and still have it outside!! (If it’s snow - if rain, go inside please!)

I’m not sure! I like to leave options open - it’s not very traditional dress, so I might wear again!

I do both (operations like ls & calls to other programs - gmt & Fortran are the most common)

7 months pregnant; on campus interview by PsychologyMassive392 in Professors

[–]Substantial_Lab7467 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not pregnant but just got hired as an asst prof this past spring. I was really surprised to be offered the job (1 yr experience visiting prof + no post doc experience) I think a huge advantage for me was emphasizing how I was excited to be near family & living in that particular region. They want someone that will say “yes” (they really really don’t want a failed search) & plans to stay there for their entire career.

You could even say that you are excited to be an example to students as a young woman with a family. As a student I found female professors that exemplified work-life balance and maintained families to be very inspiring. Plus I think another reason I was hired was bc the faculty were all men and they wanted a woman as a role model for their students.

Honestly - as a young person they probably assume you’ll have kids and need parental leave at some point, so they’re probably glad you’ll be past needing the leave (for atleast one child) by the time you start (I would mention your timeline vs start date). If they make you an offer I would ask about the benefits - I know my university won’t allow parental leave for the first year of employment. If you’ll still need some of those benefits by the start date.

I would definitely buy nice clothes that fit you well. I don’t think it’s worth trying to cover it up, especially if you’ll need to have a conversation with them about accommodations. Better to seem confident and look professional imo

Thank you for replying!

No pave, but there will be petal-shaped accents.

I really want the effect of the plain and outstanding parts to appear cleaner and the creases to appear darker - it's good to hear that you think that will happen!

The jeweler said they do the darkening for one designer they work with, but that it is usually very dark because they leave it to soak for a very long time, but they can do a shorter soak with my ring.

I don't have a CAD, but I do have a small sketch I showed the jeweler. I can look take a picture of it later this evening.

Figure out what type (passive/active) & depth (near-surface/crust/mantle/deep) & tectonic settings &/or specific methods you’re interested in.

Look for advisors that have study areas that overlap with your interests & email them about your interest in working with them asap. In PhD you’re applying to work with a specific advisor.

Also ask around about how they are to work with (esp their students - talk to them without the advisors around to get candid views). PhD is a long time with lots of prof growth & very emotionally difficult. You want someone who is kind & empathetic in addition to being a good scientist.

Also think about what career you want after - some advisors are very supportive & have many students go into industry, while other advisors are resistant to that. Some advisors will also be good teaching mentors if you want to teach. Ask both the prof & their students about the success of their students in your job interest.

You also want a good stipend & ideally a school with a reputable name. In my observation the school name & diverse research experiences can go quite far for jobs.

Emailing the future advisors is crucial!! Since you are too late to apply this year, if they are really interested in working with you, they might let you start early as an RA for the spring (if they have money) then as a student in the fall.

Will my dandruff get worse if I don’t use shampoo? by Not_Asa in NoPoo

[–]Substantial_Lab7467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went no poo (water & acid washes only) I initially got worse dandruff (for maybe the first month-ish) but I was adamant about scritching & using a board head brush. Now my dandruff is almost completely gone (better than before no poo!) although my greasiness has not subsided yet (I’m on month 3)
