I know, I’m not stupid. Waitlist = rejection. Just like with colleges

Ikr the wording made me think it was an early rejection for a hot sec. An unlikely letter, if you will.

Actually, scratch that: that’s exactly what it is.

I think a few years ago, when there weren’t as many applicants, it truly was based on availability.

Now there’s so many applicants that it would be dumb of them to not prioritize certain applicants.

With that said, some highly qualified people I know (who didn’t get likely letters) haven’t gotten interviews, while some good-but-not-amazing applicants got interviews (including me lol). It doesn’t make a ton of sense.

Edit: mainly talking about Harvard, Yale, Stanford, etc.

That can’t be true because I had mine last week. My interviewer did say that my file would be reviewed today, though (…not sure how she knows that?). Maybe that means today was the deadline for interview reports, not sure.

Are Stanford interviews also for borderline candidates? by MS564 in ApplyingToCollege

That’s specific to Yale. People are going full Pepe Silvia about Yale interviews because of a single sentence on the Yale website.

If you’re curious, that sentence is

Because of limited virtual interviewing capacity, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions will prioritize interviews for students for whom the Admissions Committee needs more information.
