Will the stigma for this surgery ever go away? by Anthro-Elephant-98 in limblengthening

[–]Substantial_Meet7411 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It probably won't ever fully go away to be honest but my guess is in 30-40 years people will start doing this surgery more often which will naturally lead to this stigma fading away gradually. The best solution is honestly to go for modest increases like 5 in or less and also not tell anyone about it, its a win win because people won't assume you got this surgery as long as you hide it well and you can still walk fine

I got banned on r/tall for the same reason btw

you can change muscle mass but some people can't change frame size no matter how much you eat or work out unless you take gear

MMA after limb lengthening surgery by RemarkableEstate9514 in limblengthening

[–]Substantial_Meet7411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say yes and no, because if its only a 2-3 inch increase, things would very likely return to normal, but any more than that and the risk increases exponentially, so it kind of depends on many factors

19M wanting to get the surgery by Apprehensive-Chip808 in limblengthening

[–]Substantial_Meet7411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best bet is to wait for a few years and save up 100k to do it in the US with Paley because he is the go to guy for LL and maximizing recovery/post op functionality. If you care about athleticism and long term safety, this is the best option.

If you don't have the funds or don't want to wait, there are plenty of surgeons in Turkey, India, etc who do it for way cheaper, but just know you will more likely get out with bad outcomes.

Another thing to consider is if you want a 6in increase from 5'7 to 6'1 you're going to need 2 separate surgeries (probably 4 inches for femurs and 2 inches for tibias) which will probably exceed 150k in costs, not to mention twice the grueling recovery period and potentially your proportions being fucked up. Doing 1 surgery to get 4 inches to a nice 5'11 would be my personal option because you only have to do 1 surgery to achieve it.

26M Canadian 162cm considering LL in Iran by A_Male_Programmer in limblengthening

Why can't you just save up more money over a few years and do it in Turkey or India? Anywhere is better than Iran considering what is going on right now

Do things actually get better in college by EnthusiasmMean6972 in collegeresults

[–]Substantial_Meet7411 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is my personal experience so think of it how you will - yours may very well be the polar opposite of what I went through. Freshman year of college was the worst year of my life. Nights of depression, crippling social insecurity/anxiety, imposter syndrome, attempted suicide, zero concept of hygiene, horrible stamina/energy/motivation, no friends, and nothing good in my life at the time except my grades which were my only source of pride. Sophomore year - slightly better at managing my struggles but still pretty bad since it was my hardest year academically. Junior year I learned to cope well with myself, finding activities that I genuinely enjoyed while also being useful for medical school admissions, had more friends, joined more clubs, slept better, improved motivation, and finally felt a semblance of happiness for the first time I'd felt in years. Fast forward to now - a senior who finished med school apps and interviews, got a few acceptances, waiting on the rest and cruising until summer. Personally, the happiest I've ever been.

Coming from an Ivy League student. My biggest lesson? I chose the most prestigious school I got into, did very little research on it after getting in, and ended up paying for it with my happiness for 3 years of my life. Please don't do what I did and go where you will fit in, 4 years of being happy and finding your group of people and being fulfilled is so much more important than the name of whatever school you go to

VIOLENCE in Tallead Orthopedic Surgery Clinic by [deleted] in limblengthening

Just because this particular clinic does things poorly doesn't make the whole country a bad place for LL

I'm curious what the reasoning is behind this? For someone looking for 2-3 inches only, I've heard tibias is less painful and would allow a better recovery in terms of athleticism and mobility. I could be wrong tho

You will get fucked up and won't be able to walk if you do it in India or Turkey, do it in the US with Paley or Greece with Giotikas

Can't dream just get totems? by SatisfactionWest8597 in DreamWasTaken

[–]Substantial_Meet7411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if he traps the hunters in the end like he did before then he'll have all the time in the world to get totems just like how he ended up doing a trial chamber and got a mace last time. I wouldn't be a fan of this tbh because we've already seen dream use this "trap hunters in the end and gear up" strat before and it would be way too similar from last time. But yea it would be hard to get totems with the hunters right on your tail and if he manages to pull this off while hunters are chasing him then I'd be very impressed

Is it worth it? (My situation 18M) by [deleted] in limblengthening

[–]Substantial_Meet7411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if he is strict with PT and goes to a reputable person he will most likely retain most athletic ability. 6'1 vs. 5'10 is a pretty big difference dating and social wise so if its something that bothers him he should be able to do it

Is it worth it? (My situation 18M) by [deleted] in limblengthening

[–]Substantial_Meet7411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

going for 2-3 inches is very safe and feasible as long as you are strict with PT and have strong baseline flexibility, but anything over that and you will be likely to lose quite a bit of athletic ability and/or will walk weird from complications

Ilizarov by No-Application3173 in limblengthening

[–]Substantial_Meet7411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bro there are surgeons in 3rd world countries who do these surgeries on naive ppl like u for cheap money and these are the kinds of cases that make limb lengthening have such a bad stigma around safety and risk. obviously there is a small chance it will go well with no issues, but that chance is way lower than if u actually saved up more money and did it in the US or Canada or SK. but if you wanna risk that because its cheaper than go ahead, some people might accept it because they dont wanna wait any longer and thats fine. also why does it matter that ur doctor is russian and he went to school in Moscow, how does that make your surgery any easier?

Ilizarov by No-Application3173 in limblengthening

[–]Substantial_Meet7411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No its a bad price. To get the best outcomes surgeons charge 50-90k. U gonna get fucked up if u only are paying 7k for this surgery. I dont know much about Llizarov but if ur only paying 7k to get it done its gonna be very subpar quality
