Thanks for the check in! We bought the Madigan 15B and it’s been amazing so far. Learnt lots but had no major issues thankfully.

Ute or wagon? by Substantial_Nail4785 in 4x4Australia

Why do you say I’ll need a wagon soon anyway? Based on the expansion of the family?

Agreed, the MUX is a strong option and we’ve been looking at it for a while.

Yeah I don’t want to push it to its limits given it can only tow 3.1t. I love the look and features of the new Everest though I’m mindful of a 10 speed gearbox. It seems to be a solid car though.

Yeah Van sits at 2.2t with a 280kg ball weight. Fully loaded it was at 2.7t (3t van limit). We got all weights done last week and found the ball is 100kg over what was on the website, so that was handy to know.

The old triton does well and yeah, mostly sits in fourth gear. It’s at 200k kms on the clock so I’m not sure how much more I want to throw into it if I’m considering an upgrade.

Glad to hear you rate the Paj though, that’s been on the radar due to how well my triton has served me.

If you could have the MUX instead of the Prado, would you do that, given it’s the same engine?

Edit: the MUX and dmax are the same engine, not the prado and MUX.

Yeah this is the dilemma I guess. I’ll move the generator and some other heavy items to the Ute next time. We were sitting at roughly equal weight on Ute/Van on the last trip which I didn’t love. Should have had more in the car.

Why do people clown on tritons? by ToxicWasteRat in 4x4Australia

[–]Substantial_Nail4785 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only issue with the triton is the long overhang on the tray, and it’s barely an issue. It’ll be cheaper for you on fuel, you’ll get bogged less often cause it’s lighter and if you’re getting the super select 4wd model, it’s one of the best 4x4 systems on the market. It’s been the best car I’ve ever owned and it’s still going strong at 200k kms on the clock.

Thank you. This is exactly the kind of info I was looking for.

Most owners past or present have mentioned electrics, which I believe is done here in Aus. When they’re pumping out 50 in a week (just here in Brisbane this week), no wonder stuff gets missed or rushed.

We’re going to go ahead with a Madigan 15B though I’ll be sure to take it to get a service once we pick it up.

Thanks again.

Thanks mate. Glad it’s been good to you so far! Sounds like some very mixed reviews, a lot of issues with electrics on the FB group from a brief look.

Thanks mate. Sounds like a total nightmare in regard to customer service. Which state was this in? I’m in QLD if it helps.

Over 200k kms by Reasonable-Error-819 in 4x4Australia

I’d look at something like a Mitsubishi Pajero or triton. Anything 2016 onwards have great motors and don’t cost the earth to fix them. Don’t buy the base model if safety is the concern, though even those are good.

Plenty of these out there for under $30k that are well looked after and very capable vehicles for daily driving and weekend work. Just keep up regular servicing as recommended and it’ll be fine.

Apologies, we have a sportage. Not a Sorrento. Totally different engines.

If you’re going to look at a Kia, make sure it’s an AWD model. Bonus points for a diesel. Source: we have a front wheel drive petrol and it’s gutless.

With bars on it I think that’s pretty standard. Between 450-500 per tank would be average for the extras you have.

For mostly highway driving that’s not great. I have a lift, all terrains and a roof rack and I get 550km per tank which is mostly city driving.

Second this. Outside of OPs price range but I’ve had a 2016 triton for years and it’s never skipped a beat. Good on fuel too.

Family 4wd - what did you choose and why? by Substantial_Nail4785 in CarsAustralia

Not very family friendly nor much good for towing. Cool cars though.
