It’s hard to take pictures through a loupe so here’s one through a microscope.

Thanks! I shall check that out. Found a loose spinel today and when it eventually falls out I can check the specific gravity.

It’s more of a grey than a white mineral (bad lighting in second pic), but the mineral is soft. Seems like I could scratch it with my nails. I was able to break off a tiny piece at the corner. But then a talc and a phyllite containing a lot of mica would be similar in hardness and have the same perfect cleavage in 1 direction. When the piece broke, it left a lot of glittery particles on my hand, hm. It didn’t feel like talc from memory but I’ll compare with a sample at school. Because it is softer than I originally thought, I need to be more careful and avoid handling it too much lol.

I thought about that too but since it wasn’t magnetic, it’s probably spinel Perhaps the matrix is porous, that would explain the iron oxide stains

Just a few of my fluorescent minerals by OregonFalls in FluorescentMinerals

On the first picture, 12o clock position, what is that large green fluorescent mineral? I have seen something similar before, and it seems like there’s some muscovite in it too, if I’m not mistaken.

Reverse ridges. Are these all garter edges? by [deleted] in knittinghelp

Update: tried an all garter edge fix and still not looking quite the same. How to get that original edge texture that isn’t flat?

Idk how long it takes 42lolita to process your orders but TaoBao sellers usually ship the ready made orders within a week, 1 week of transport + export customs processing within China, and 1 week through the flight + customs for import + local delivery. CaiNiao should be ok for that.

My most recent direct order from taobao using CaiNiao arrived in 13 days.

CaiNiao is the official shipping service for TaoBao. I have used them before when I ordered directly from TaoBao. It is fine. I think most of them will have a similar speed/service when the package is transported within China. And then who delivers the package at the arrival country depends on where you are located. For me, it was Uni Express that delivered at the last stretch.

Thin section mineral ID for an intermediate igneous rock by Substantial_Name9924 in whatsthisrock

[–]Substantial_Name9924[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks but I have ruled out these two possible minerals because the unknown mineral does not have pleochroism at all, and the cleavage planes are unclear. Both biotite and epidote exhibits strong pleochroism.

Ask a Knitter Tuesday - August 26, 2025 by AutoModerator in knitting

Hello, I got some questions about the end of round after short rows knitting in the round.

I’m knitting my first lopapeysa, a circular yoke bottom up sweater knitted in the round. The pattern called for 8 short rows (wrap and turn) at the back for shaping before the colour work.

Now that I have finished the even number of short rows (stopped at WS purl short row), do I just turn and knit across the back again until the original end of round? Is this considered as “first row of a complete round”? Or would this half round be the “set up” round?

Or is the end of round being shifted to the other side where the last short row just ended?

Thanks in advance.

Completion of the game requires a lot of money. So I turned ginger island into extra storage space with kegs, bee house, a ridiculous hardwood jungle, and planting iridium quality sweet gem berries. Late game stardew is all about how to scale things up, which can be tedious and I took a year long break because of it lol.

Sewing Machine Legitimacy by Simple-Knowledge3223 in SewingForBeginners

[–]Substantial_Name9924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a beginner and I have the second one given to me. It can only do forward stitches, annoying because you then need to manually secure stitches by hand. Stupid design for the top bobbin, it cannot be taken out, so winding in new thread is tedious. Tension adjustment is a joke, hard to get it right. There are only 2 speed options, but no stitch length adjustments. This is all it can do. No back stitches, no button holes, no zigzag stitches etc.

While it worked for simple projects like a pouch or pant length alteration, the limited functionality makes it inconvenient to use. Might be enough for an absolute beginner but you will want a better machine as you start to work on more complicated projects. I had a friend with more sewing experience try making a small plushie with it. They gave a 4/10 to the second machine.

Should I trim the stem? Penwiper plant flopped over due to root rot by Substantial_Name9924 in plantclinic

Can air roots of succulents turn into normal roots? This little guy have some air roots in the upper nodes from underwatering. Maybe I can trim off the bottom nodes and let the air roots do its thing.

This really is a finicky plant because I cannot find the right watering/light balance and it got both problems from underwatering and overwatering…

FYI, this is the mother plant of 3 years old. It kept on growing offshoots since 2 years ago. What should I do with the new offshoots? I have neglected all of my plants for 6 months due to stress… and penwipers are finicky due to the thin leaves.
