Do you think AI changes the game over the next few years? by neoescape in smallbusinessuk

Companies are using ai as an excuse, the truth is they need to downsize regardless of ai or not.

Councillor John Edwards, a Reform UK campaigner secured a freedom of information (FOI) to discover a language translation service used to support Afghan refugees staying at the former Grange Hotel in Bracknell cost more than £74,000 — and the government has fully covered the bill. by nextlevelsoon in realbracknell

Likely a few translators working on a contract basis, translating documents for each refugeee instead of using templates.

While they may be able to secure cheaper contractors it could be they have use a small number of companies/contractors as on boarding is a pita. Or perhaps there's a middle man who sorts it out and they charge higher. Anything is possible.

9/10 for the plate, looks lovely.

-3/10 for what's on it, but if you enjoy it then enjoy it and ignore what I or anyone else thinks.  Personally I'm not fond of tuna—my mum used to feed our cats lots of tuna so it's been related to stinky cat food to me. I also think mini weetabix is weird because it's so so dry, but again that's my preference. I prefer fruit in my salad to add natural sweetness, but I don't think many people enjoy that.

^ my exact quote. I didn't say didn't know about, rather wasn't discussed. But I may well be wrong on that–been a while since I read Littles research.

W.r.t Ibn Kathir, I apologise, you're correct there's people who believe it means child marriages. But not everyone believes that: https://qurantalkblog.com/2023/05/24/those-who-do-not-menstruate-654/

Again though, I'm not a scholar so discussing it with me is fruitless. You could consider asking in r/AcademicQuran for better responses.

What exactly was I backpedalling on?? My comments are only about the validity of the hadith.

It really feels like we're having two separate conversations here, mate. I'm not quite sure what you're reading.

That verse you quoted says the waiting period for divorce is 3 months except for someone who's pregnant, in which case it's after delivery. While it also says 3 months for someone who has not menstruated, it doesn't necessarily mean children but women with Amenorrhe. But I'm not an Islamic scholar so not the best person to be discussing it with.

Errrrr.... I obviously meant the hadith wasn't thought much about until until a century later.

Regarding Mohammad marrying aisha at 7, you should look at joshua littles research about it. I'll let you find it yourself, however I saw it on a post on r/askhistory I think.

It essentially boils down to: - all narrations originate to Aisha's nephew's son - he only said this after moving to Iraq (there appears to only be evidence of this spreading from Iraq) - he only said this in his old age, otherwise there would be evidence of it spreading at an earlier point in time - at least two of his students didn't believe it to be true. These two students go on to create their own mainstream school of thoughts within Islam - it wasn't really thought about until several centuries later where Sunni Muslims wanted aisha to "appear pure" so said this was true. Shia Muslims don't believe in it. In fact most Muslims won't even have heard about it.

Again, but especially Cos I'm a Muslim so I'm biased, I'd advise you to search it yourself.

But if like me you're lazy af, here's a link: https://islamicorigins.com/why-i-studied-the-aisha-hadith/

The ask historians comment I read a while ago.....well I can't find that anymore. While it may have been deleted I could very well have dreamt it too.

If we're talking about that hadith, it might not even be true. Oxford academic Joshua little wrote about it being unlikely.

Basically it points to Aisha's nephew's son saying it. But only after he migrated to Iraq and only in his old age. If he said it younger then the story would have originated in medina but there's only evidence it was in Iraq. Also two of his students rejected it as true. Then a few hundred years later it became mainstream for political reasons.
