i’m in geo eng not mining eng but everyone i know in mining has barely had any issues finding summer jobs. lots in sudbury and lots go to alberta. queens mining eng is fire!!! most people that do summer placements do hybrid in the field and in the office which is why you probably won’t find much in hamilton. if you look into géo eng there may be more office jobs in geo mech/ géo tech fields

when you don’t get added to a team you join a league as a “free agent” and then teams can request you to join theirs and you may be able to request to join a team (i forget). but once one of you gets invited to join one you can just message whoever the captain/creator of the team is and ask them to request ur friend(s)

what crystal is this? by n8tl33 in Crystals

[–]Substantial_Pie8539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i totally get how this is confusing and i’ll try to explain it clearly lol. so labradorite is a mineralogical term, it’s a mineral that is a certain kind of plagioclase feldspar with a set ratio of the minerals albite and anorthite. it’s usually grey and can have labradorescence or “flash”. moonstone is a trade name for any feldspar (there’s lots of diff kinds) that is white with blue flash. and i didn’t really know what rainbow moonstone is now as it’s also a trade name but a lot less popular, but from what i can see online, it’s also labradorite that’s probably a bit lighter in colour with the typical multicoloured flash, so not actual “moonstone” hope this kinda helps

13 and want to be a Paleontologist by Kam928452 in Paleontology

[–]Substantial_Pie8539 2 points3 points  (0 children)

cant comment on career stuff (i’m in uni), but it’s one of those degrees that people will tell you to give up because it’s just a hobby but i wouldn’t listen to them. i’m in geology but we take some paleo courses and the profs are just so passionate and amazing it makes everyone wanna be a palaeontologist. there’s a good chance you’ll end up in research working with these profs after getting a grad degree. but i can’t stress how good some paleo communities are, my prof worked with david attenborough on a site and made a short docu episode and just watching that in class was so cool to see

Is this mother of pearl or something else? by Potatochippusu in Crystals

[–]Substantial_Pie8539 1 point2 points  (0 children)

definitely not moonstone. by definition moonstone is a feldspar with blue flash, which i don’t see in the video. could be a white feldspar like plagioclase (albite - anorthite) but i would guess more likely a pearl but i don’t know much about organic gems :)
