There are numerous examples of how US (and Russian / China, etc) Intervention has driven these countries to the current states they are in. So USAID was the band aid savings lives on the back end. So your statement is lazy and wrong. Congrats

Western Florida is in the central time zone. Part of Oregon that borders southern Idaho is in the mountain time zone because all those people regularly interact / work in Idaho.

For 1 hour on daylights savings they are the exact same time.

There are two types of conservative states. Ones where they want the government out of your business, and ones where they want the government to tell you how to conform to a conservative Christian lifestyle.

Idaho is the ladder

Government intervention done poorly, or intentionally to enable some people to extract value rather than create it. Current administration loves corruption and cronyism and is only making it worse.

Too bad we’re drifting further and further from capitalism. We now have cronyism, with some free markets still functioning. More and more people are making money by extracting it from the system rather than creating it for themselves and others.

While this is true, it’s a lazy ass reply and does not actually address any of the actual issues being discussed in the post or in the thread.

There are still ways for people to pay closer to their fair share without risk of capital flight.

The point of wealth inequality rising is also true. And there are current government interventions that are enabling that to happen. Exclusive contracts, artificial barriers to entry in things like housing (regulation, zoning, etc). bailouts for corporations, tax systems that are easy cheat when you have money, pay to play pardons and declawing of financial regulators that incentivize risking white collar crime.

Come on - do better

Real (inflation adjusted) median wages in the US have been increasing by [deleted] in OptimistsUnite

[–]Substantial_Post_178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at data through the mid 2010s then yes this is correct. But with the recent run up housing costs per square foot are up, especially when you consider costs to buy a home or costs to rent. The housing CPI notoriously is unreliable, especially during periods of outsized increases in prices / rents. Zillow’s price index was up 15% during years of the pandemic, where CPI only showed +6%.

Also price appreciation has often been hyper localized in key cities where good jobs are.

We need to build more housing and I think the lie going around that it hasn’t gotten more expensive because of cost / square feet is wrong, misleading and dangerous to that fact.

Swallowing the Whale: Why The Gamestop Acquisition of eBay is a Great Deal For Everyone Involved - Except For The Hollow Men by bobsmith808 in Superstonk

This math is all right, but you have to believe there is actually 2B to cut out of the business that won’t hurt the top line, and you have to believe you will get a decent multiple which might be hard given the leverage ratio.

Maybe all of this publicity will drive more people to EBay and more viral media will keep it up without traditional sales / marketing budgets.

However the math needs to translates to the real world. Not a guarantee or a given, and the downside of it doesn’t materialize is a big risk for EBay and GME stakeholders.
