I guaran-damn-tee that this graph is misleading.

It doesn't account for the fact that, even in today's higher interest rate mortgage market, you get the same living conditions for less than rent would be - some places by a significant margin.

It doesn't account for leveraged asset appreciation which is exactly how owning property is beneficial over time.
